Z4 Fog lights

I am interested in having fog lamps installed on our 2003 Z4... I visited a BMW retailer yesterday in Ventura County/Ca yesterday and was quoted $895. for the kit and labor. In addition, it appeared from the conversation that the service fellow did not really know much about this installation job and I am not sure to proceed or to keep visiting other BMW retailers. I realize that the fog lamps may be used infrequently but I dont like the unfinished look now presented.

Any advice and direction would be appreciated
Thank you
Gary

Your car should be pre wired for them, I saw a post on roadfly once about this, the wires where already there, so I dont think it should be very hard to add them

$895 sounds like the typical stealer ripoff pricing

Had them installed on my '04

Dealer matched the price for the parts (the lights, a new headlight switch and a relay) quoted by Circle BMW - $322.82. Labor was $161.50 additional. That included installing and programming the foglights.

My side mirrors also started being heated after the fog light install (the option for fog lights includes heated mirrors). However I can't swear that the mirrors weren't heated before the fogs were installed - never checked.

yes, that's correct and I meant to mention it, heated side mirrors become active with the foglight install

IMO you don't really need to remove the front bumper cover, though it would be easier that way. Put the car on jackstands and remove the front wheels. At the front of the wheelwell liner is a door you can open to access the rear foglight port area. Taking the front bumper cover off is pretty easy too. Too bad you're not in the DFW area or I could physically install them for you, the dealer would still need to adjust the code program though. Alternatively you could just drop the whole fenderliner out, which would give you easy access to the back of the bumper cover corners. There are many ways to skin a cat and the method listed by the factory is not usually the quickest or easiest

Where is the Fog Light relay located?

I just installed fog lights in my 2003 Z4 and it says to install K47 in the power distributor... Where is it located... Thanks...

I had the same question. Where is the power distribution located? The answer is behind the fuse panel under the dashboard. You have to drop the cover panel below the glove box to get to it. The fog light relay plugs in near the top of this panel. After you locate it a flashlight and mirror you have to reach up blind and plug it in.
