95 E36 Convertible rattle

hi,

I have a 95 E36 Conv. I love my car but recenlty a rattle has developed . Trouble locating the source.

Thought were rear shock mounts so changed them. The rattle continues. Strange enough, when I have the top up, the rattle is very loud and present, but when I put the top down the rattle disappears. Just can't figure it out. It sounds like a loose plate or shaft-definitely metal on metal due to the high pitch.

The convertible motor is on tightly, the shafts that move the top is tight. The compartment is solid. Thinking it gotta have something to do with the rear deck lid for the conv compartment. Just can't figure out why that rattle would disappear when the top is stored in the rear comparment.



I have 109k miles and the car is cherry. The convertible works perfectly.

Any ideas or concrete thoughts ?

I have the same problem on my convertible, the rattle in my car comes from the hinges in the top and the compartment door for the top squeeks when the top is up too.

No idea but wanted to give you a for a good looking car (really like the rims).

Now get some clear turn signals put on that thing!

mine also rattles where the top compartment door rattles against the car
