Cool 180000 here

My girl runs like a champ, and still gets ooohs and aaahs being a sport packaged touring, which is rare in these parts, especially with all the glass tinted out.

She needs cats and is bogging, I would love to drill them out b/c the fix is a fortune.

Price

Well, considering I take such great care of my car, it is never going to get what I think it's true value is. At this stage, it is best to keep it for one of your kids or as a second car. If you have to sell it, don't be surprised at lowballers looking to steal it away for a lot less than blue book. You know what energy and care to the car you put in. Mine has 187000 miles, but it runs better than some friends cars with less than 25k. I would say my 525i sport wagon would sell for 6400.00, but I would ask 7000.00

I'd be happy If I got $5000 for mine but I couldn't sell it. 240,000 miles and it still rides and drives like a new car.

Are UK miles longer than a regular mile?

And to keep it running, just add $$$.

great to hear so many people her with cars with so many miles still running great. My initial intention was to but an E60 525 or 530 but I found my new-to-me e39 540i sport for cheap and could not be happier. I bought it with 73500 miles on it and look to have her running good until at least 200k.

I'm driving a 540iT(ank) loaner from my shop with 199k on it. The car's a roiling wreck but the engine is still pretty tight.

First, 236K miles and going strong.

To Maverick10's point, value is a relative term; market value versus personal/perceived value for example. If I sold my car, I would never get out of it what I put into it. But that is not my concern. I put the money into for my own entertainment and I intend to put more money into it as it needs it since I do not intend to sell it.

These are great cars. What value you put on your car is a personal judgement call.

Nice to read all the high - mile owners' comments. Anyone has an automatic? Done any service to it, or maintanence? Curious!

Austin Healey....nice! But this one was not designed to run on synthetic oil. Probably would still leak anyway but it may not be getting sufficient lubrication with the synthetic oil. I have a 1969 Jaguar XKE…same issues. By the way, 36,000 miles on the XKE.

bmw's dont die. Its people wallets and patience for expensive nonstop repairs that die. Half the m5's ive seen being parted out werent even crashed. They were just worth more in pieces.

i also have a theory that due to failure of the overly complex ccv system many people mistake their cars for having catastrophic ring failure when its something much less sinsister

Final odometer reading was 231,236 miles when a semi took out my driver side (left side). Engine was still purring nearly perfectly (had a little valve noise, but that's "normal"), and transmission was running original oil and shifting fine. I wanted to take it to 500k miles

Mein Auto: 2002 BMW 530i
Once owned a 98' 528i that got t-boned at 70mph (cut me out the car with a broken leg). Other 5's included an awesome 80' 528i, really great 83' 528e, and a 89' 535i.

Am excited to say that I just purchased a 2002 530i yesterday w/221K on the clock. Runs like it has 60K. Had an inspection beforehand (wise to do) and found a bit of oil under at the rear main seal and the oil pan. Not easy to determine origin of leak, anyone with same issue (anything to be concerned with right away?)
Anyway, scored the car for $3,750, a screaming deal, beautiful Sterling Gray paint with Kalahari beige leather, all in extremely good order considering mileage. I remember my sound system being substandard in the 98' 528i, not much has changed in the 2002 530i.
Shame really with such a lovely car wrapped around it. Woulda thought they'd offer the Harmon Kardon from the 3-series if not an upscale Alpine. Anyway, excited to get back into the drivers seat and listen to the symphony from under the hood!

225,000 Miles now

Happy to update everyone I am now at 225k and not a hint of major issues. I have a pesky oil leak where the block meets the tranny. But nothing a quart a month doesn't handle.

I am now looking at 2003-newer e39's and 3 series wagons, the prices are fantastic, for 80-100k miles on that year range you can pick a clean one up for 9500-14000 dollars. That is a steal in my book.
