I have a 98 323iSE (E36). A couple of days ago I used a 10K Boost (very strong) carbon cleaner that I sprayed via the air intake and mass meter. Apparently I should have used the 10K boost after the air mass meter. NOW, in lower gears, when the revs drop below 1000, and when I am rolling, the car jerks like mad. Anyone have any pointer?...i suspect i have messed up the air mass meter or could it be something else? Any views welcome |

I'd just have to say "eek." The MAS/AFM is a fairly sensitive little piece, and if you got any "crud" on the fillament, especially flammable crud, it's probably shot. I've never heard of anyone repairing one and having it cost less than just getting a replacement from a parts store or even a junk yard.
Testing it is something the service manual will have instructions on, basically you're going to have to give it power, and then check the resistance while blowing some air through it. If the numbers don't add up, time for a new one. Make sure when you have it out that you don't let any crap drop into your intake or your problems just got a whole lot worse. Stuff a clean rag into the intake first thing. (this is just general AFM information, I haven't looked specifically at a bimmer sensor, but they all work basically the same way.) |

Air Mass Meter
Tell me about it!. the funny thing is that the "check engine" sign has not illuminated. Anyway I have sourced a second hand unit for £50. I might just get it and take a gamble. Any technician or mechanic is likely to charge the same to test it.
Thanks for your help. I should add that I have noticed a marginal difference in acceleration after using the product. Albeit, take NOTE, YOU SHOULD APPLY AFTER THE AIR MASS METER - well I know that now! Quote:
