Unhappy Problems with 17inch wheel fitment

I have a problem. According to tire rack's website, my BBS RGR's in a 4x100 bolt pattern and +38 should be the 'optimal' fit and that's what they sell my E30 1989 325is auto. The car is completely stock. (I have tire rack provided spacers/longer lugnuts) I took it in a local Dobbs (recommended by tire rack) to have it installed. And they call me back telling me it doesn't fit and the wheel rubs on the inside wheelwell. Other e30's have this problem? PLEASE HELP! I want some feedback before I end up returning everything.

Since the wheel/tire rubs the inside of the fender, perhaps you should verify that those spacers are the correct thickness. How far inboard would the wheel have to sit to "clear"? If you leave the spacers out does the wheel hit on components on the inside? This happens with the wheels pointed straight ahead?

Where is it rubbing front or rear? Inside wheel well or outside wheel well. You need to be more specific.

I'm thinking by the model year of your car being an 89 it's the rear and is rubbing the outer lip. If so you will need to roll the lip slightly. This is common practice.
