You mean you need people to affirm your perspective?

You'd better have more than a yes or no poll:
1) No, never.
2) No, the parts to do it right aren't available.
3) Yes, for a small trailer.
4) Sure, I'll tow a boat.

I would (and did). You can do a search, but Da'Lan (I think that's how
it's spelled) makes one that fits nicely. If you're in the Philly area, I
can recommend a shop that'll install it.

It's just a car. It's not even a particularly special car.

Tools are meant to be used.

For other sick perverts like me, if you do a search for Trailer Hitch on google, you should get a link to hitch-web. They've sold me two hitches and have an automated engine that will give you the selection of hitches for your vehicle of choice, suggest ancillaries you will need, etc. No, I don't have any affiliation with them!

As far as the poll phrasing goes, if anyone actually believes this is horrible abuse, please note that there are widely circulated test shots of the E90 wagon doing winter testing with a bloody great tow hitch on it. Hitches are commonly used in Europe and no one has a cow over them, so I conclude that American BMW owners believe they are somehow declasse.

Of course, if you are stuck behind a BMW towing a motor home at 15 mph through the Verdun Gorge, then I think violence is warranted.

Yep, I put a hitch on my 325it too. Use it with a bike rack and functionally it's no different than when I was using this bike rack on our previous Volvo XC90.

I'd say if you need it and want it, then do it. It's afterall, just a car, a really fun car than can be very versatile.

No, because I have more fun in my BMWs. Doesn't change the fact that it's a tool that meant to be USED.

Why not? Ever been to Europe? Tons of 3 series over there have hitches.
It's not an icon to be worshiped, it's a car. Get over it.

WTF does being in America have to do with it? These cars cost a hell of a lot more over there than they do here. That's nonsense.

Driving it like an old lady or following BMW's maintenance schedule is far more abusive.

If I didn't already own a truck, yes I would. I'm thinking it'd be nice to tow a little trailer with tools and track tires, or for trips to the mega home improvement store. Towing within the limits of the car is not abusive, and not everyone can have multiple vehicles.

Your poll subject is not restricted to towing boats.

It's a car made by a company called BMW. Pople use cars to tow trailers all the time. Europeans who drive BMW cars and don't confuse their car with their self-image do it all the time. BMW even sells hitches for that purpose in Europe. That they do not in this country (U.S.) I attribute to fear of lawyers or fear people will over-do it (Americans are an unrully bunch) or image clash. My guess.

IT'S A CAR, GUY! No more. No less...and yes I own one.
