Trailer Hitch...?

I would appriciate any help from anybody that could help me with a question about a trailer hitch. I talked to BMW Canada and they said the only trailer hitches they can get are for the cars in Germany. They will not supply them for Canadian cars, because of some law! I talked to one person in town that can get a trailer hitch for a 540, but it is $600 for part and to install! That in US dollars is 600 x 1.5. That is alot of money. If anybody can give me the part number for the trailer hitch, maybe I can just order through BMW. I heard this is a little trick to get around the BMW dealer guys? Is this true? Thank-you very much for your help. This is a GREAT forum and always LOTS of help available. Thanks

If you are looking for OEM, I thought they were only available in the USA for the E39 iT (wagons)? Not sure if that means they would not work on a non iT.

72-11-0-009-048 TRAILER HITCH $484.50 (USD) for a 1999 540iT.
71-60-0-139-714 ELECTRIC KIT 1 $361.25

"This trailer hitch has a class 2 rating with a maximum towing rate of up to 3500lbs"

Thank-you very much for your input. I have still not got a trailer hitch put on. I did find out the part # for the trailer hitch that I need. It does not match the ones you gave me for the wagon. The lbs rating for this trailer hitch is only 2000lbs. So that is a little different, but thank-you.
