Front License Plate Install Question on 330Ci

My used 330Ci came with a front license plate installed (I'm in CA), attached to the BMW license plate holder. Last weekend I took it off, and to my horror the original owner drilled two of the screws into the bumper. Is this necessary in order to properly mount the license plate holder onto the car? I was going to leave the license plate off, but now it looks equally as bad with two holes in the bumper.

Thanks,
Mark

Sorry for the bad news, but that is the way the front plate holders are attached on the coupes. Too
bad the coupes aren't like the sedans where you can just replace the center molding trim if you don't
want the front plates.

Lucky for me, my former front plate coupe is black, and the holes are unnoticeable.

That beautiful 645ci at Bimmefest with the 22" wheels had 2 holes in the front bumper too. What a shame!

I was lucky. When I picked up my car, they asked me if I wanted it installed, of course I said no.

If I do down the line, I will definately be using double sided foam tape instead of self tapping screws. Ouch.

Mine turned out to have holes in the crease (sp?) in my front bumper. As a result, they are nearly un noticeable. I installed the euro painted plate holder and the munich dealer frame that I brought back from ED, and they look great. Sorry to hear yours were more visable.

That's where mine are located also. Unfortunately, the previous owner got a little overzealous when tightening the screws and there are indentations from the screw heads (or something).

Just wondering, but assuming water trickled its way into those holes, would the water be able to get out somewhere else? I don't want to have stale water sloshing around in my bumper.

Yes, industrial strength adhesives.

Then of course, they will stay on forever, or if you attempt to remove it you might take off some paint in the process.

Sorry to hear about the holes. Just wanted to comment…I love the no plate look…since you say CALIFORNIA… well cops don’t really care about that, until you piss one off and then they would Site you for no front plates just to get even if they got noting on you. I have heard this from CHP, Sheriffs, and local police.

I manage to irritate a rookie and got my fix it ticket. (and I don’t even have the bracket to mount a plate)
Always play nice with the police.

I luckily was also given the option to have the plate holder installed. I still have the bracket though. I've done this when I get a fix it ticket: Install the bracket and plate into the slots in bumper (They "snap-in" and hold the plates in place TEMPORARILY) a few blocks from the CHP and then drive there and get it written off.

Has anyone used these bumperplugs before? This looks like exactly what we need to fix the drilled front bumper issue, but just wondering if they work well and look good?

Why....
If money is short to have it repaired and don’t want to pay that plug company, just go to you local hardware store and buy two plugs (metal screws, plastic plugs or anything you like that will fit the hole and stay put) and go meet your local body shop (ideally a BMW authorized repair shop) and ask for a favor to throw those in when they paint a similar color BMW and presto color plugs

If they charge you it wont be no more than $20.00
the plugs will be ???$1.00
and it will be your BMW color

Just make sure you prep it or have them prep (sanded, and sprayed with and adhisive promoter?) so the chances of it peeling on you is low

I live where BMW’s are common, and my local body shop paint BMW on a regular basis.
