Seat Belts Lock w/ Passenger in Seat
I purchased my first BMW (2011 335i Convertible) about 6 months ago and LOVE it. Recently both of the front seat belts started locking up after being buckled with a passenger in the seat. They will not allow you to lean forward (no matter how slowly). I have to unbuckle to look behind me before backing up. When I got the car, the seat belts did not fail in this manner, and now both of the front seat belts have failed.
They are mimicking seat belts set to accept a child car seat, except they will not return to normal use no matter how many times you fully extend or fully retract the belts. This is a convertible, so the seat belt assembly is located within the front seats. The dealer repair shop has no idea why they are acting this way and can only recommend I try replacing them at a cost of over $1,000.
Any ideas how to correct this problem?
