Someone called my X5

Hello there,

I hope this isn't a stupid question. The other day, the gf and I are driving to lunch and a phone starts ringing. We look around, it's not my cell phone nor is it hers. Look at the NAV screen and it says that there's a phone call coming in. We answer it and it's a wrong number. We don't have the Bluetooth module. We tried calling out via the telephone screen on the NAV and it did not work. How the heck did someone call the car?

Thanks!

You probably have Assist. Calls can come in, but you can only call the BMW Help Desk.

xspeedy: we do have bmw assist although we've never used it. so someone accidentally called the number associated w/ our car through bmw assist? or do you think the call was routed to us via bmw assist?

Dougdogs: you're right, we were both stunned and forgot to ask.

vinu_neuro: we have a 2004 4.4, no bluetooth... i think that phone button is there for everyone...

I suspect someone misdialed a number and called your car instead of the intended party. So if you know what the number is, you could give it away to friends and they could call your car.

I'm sort of confused as to why it is functional if you don't have a subscription. Have you tried calling the Assist folks using the button?

try checking in the service menu/settings, the phone number might be in there.

Assit Telephone - Incoming Calls

I had read that the Assist would accept incoming calls, but waited patiently for someone to call - Good Luck. But, as it turns out, Starbucks Latte in one hand, keys in the other, I get in my X5, only to have the phone ring....QUICK ignition on, answer phone. Bob? No Phil, Sorry got wrong number, WAIT, what number did you call? Got number, pick up cell, dial number, Holy Sh*t, it works. Call friends, tell them my NEW mobile number. Everything fine for about a month, then NOTHING. They (I seem to recall it was Verizon who does the cellular for Assist) must monitor the usage, and then killed my phone number. When I call it, it says number is out of service. Bummer!

That would be pretty cool if it still worked.

Mathew,
some of the guys have indicated it has worked longer than mine did. But it was 'cool' when it did. Of course NO outgoing calls, just incoming, and it was a 404 area code (Atlanta). When it died, it was about a year after the car was put in service, so I'm wondering if the Assist subscription ended and disabled the 'central office' system, thereby ending my fun?

Anyone elses still work?
