A prototype X3M was spotted undergoing testing near BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina SUV assembly plant.

The development mule was spotted sporting all the typical M car cues, like an aggressive front fascia with gaping air intake, turbocharger intercoolers peeking out from behind grilles, sporty wheels, big brake, a sad spoiler and a conventional set of quad exhaust tips.

Codenamed F97, the new X3M is expected to pack BMWs new S58, engine, a 3.0L, twin-turbo inline six, good for at least 450hp in the upcoming X3M and related X4M.

Production of the new X3M is expected to begin in the first half of 2019.
