If you are a real BMW fan then you definitely want to know the date when the 1-Series M Coupe will be launched, right? Well, today we got the answer for you: the new car will make its official debut in January at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. Still, this is not the only things we found out today. According to Albert Biermann, the development chief of BMW M GmbH, the new car will receive the same 3.0-liter 6-cilinder unit with turbocharger found on the Z435is unveiled back in January at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show.

The engine delivers 340 hp/250 kW at 5900 rpm and 450 Nm/323 lb.-ft of torque at 1500-4500 rpm, and can push the Z4 to 100 km/g (62 mph) in just 4.8 seconds, while the top speed achieved electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h). Expect the same numbers to be found on the 2011 Bmw 1-Series M Coupe.

Regarding its name, 1-Series M Coupe, Biemermann said that the car could not be badged as an M1 because this name refers to an iconic sports car and should be reserved just for this type of vehicles. "Since it is so long ago, why care. Who would be confused? Not us, nor the young customers you want to attract with this new M model, who probably were not even born?" added Mr. Biermann.

Active Autowerke had a thing on their blog that said the car would be called the 1 series M and that the engine would deliver a bit more power.

Now, if they could just knock a couple hundred pounds off that little porker, it might actually *perform* like an M-car....

40hp more over a stock 135 is that really M car worthy???

I also do not care for the over flared sides.

If it's got a limited slip diff as well as that engine, I'm in. It'd be by far the cheapest BMW with a true LSD and would be an absolute hoot to drive fast.

The M3 is a bit porky and overpriced... even though I came within a squeak of buying one earlier this year. The 1 Series M might be the exact right car at the exact right time for my next buying decision.

All the M cars are porky nowadays.

I hope the next gen 1M will be 4 cyl turbo powered, that'd save a lot of weight.

I see people say that a lot, but I bet the next gen 1 series w/4cyl turbo is no more than 100lb lighter. It's not enough to make up for all the grunt it's gonna lose.

It performs like an M car. Unless 0-60 in the mid 4s isn't worthy.

I think I'm going to have a hard time avoiding buying one of these.

Hmmm.............. I just took a ride in a new Hyundai Sonata with the 4-cylinder 274 HP turbo. The car is faster and better handling than the One and a lot cheaper!

Uh, its not faster than a 135... While I am not a fan of the handling of the 135 Sport I would also wager that it would top the Sonata Turbo. Don't get me wrong, I dig the Hyundai...but a 135 it is not in term of performance...

Um...that's pretty much trolling.
