If there was a hall of fame for SUV's there would be NO doubt in our minds that the BMW X5 would be an uncontested nominee.

Great looks, practicality and unparalleled driving experience are just a few of its great attributes.

Ever since we returned our long term review X5 last year, we've missed it everyday since.

And now that there is a clean diesel, the X5 is even better.

But if you ask customers or buyers that bought something else, one criticism resonates...Have you guessed it yet?

They all say if they could change one thing it would be its size.

It's TOO small

Yes, I was taken aback when that information was shared with me but that is what customers and potential customers say.

So reliable sources have informed AutoSpies.com that the next generation BMW X5 will grow in size, maybe even to the size of the Mercedes-Benz GL-Series.

Just make an X7 already.

So the X1 becomes the old X3, the new X3 grows to the X5 and the X5 gets even larger.

Here we go, supersizing America again!

That's an SUV? That's a blooming hatchback.

Didn't they try the GT? What's the difference?

If the X5 gets to be as big as the Merc GL, I'll choose something smaller, like the X6 perhaps. I like the size just the way it is...

The pic is an artists concept.

The new X5 will look much like the current and previous designs.

I like the outside size fine, do not want it any bigger in the garage or parking spaces. However, the cargo area is too small after having to jam a bicycle in there and compared to other SUV's.

Hopefully they can work some Honda/Toyota magic with interior space efficency.

I don't think it's too small at all. Go get an Expedition if you want SUPER SIZE.

Don't they make a long wheelbase 5 series for the Chinese market? An X5 L would be pretty cool.

Indeed, but hopefully it won't take magic... my 2005 Ford Focus Wagon has more cargo space than a new X5. I found this quite surprising when I packed for camping this Summer, but the specifications also confirm this.

Looks like a Q7. . The current X5 looks great.

I want them to make it look just like a RR with BMW internals.

I've also seen that tossed around as a rendering for an X4 design, so who knows what it really is. It appears too far away from the X5 design to be realistic to my eye though. I could buy it as a design study in another model in the X series though.

I can understand that. I down-sized from a F150, I don't want a huge vehicle. My wife drives a Navigator currently and it's also big, although smaller than many of it's peers these days vs. when it first came out.

I just don't need a huge vehicle, and this one suits my needs perfectly at this time. The only deficiency I have noted is that I cannot get four people and four sets of golf clubs in it simultaneously. Fortunately, I can get three of each, and that's plenty most of the time :-)

Agree, I found the same thing moving from my 2006 Volvo V70.
it's due to that raked rear screen, but it's also that Angle that gives the "X" it's great looks.

^^^ My thoughts exactly !
Maybe that is the next X6, and maybe that Spy should have taken off his sun glasses
