Martha Stewart accepted BMW's invitation to design her dream BMW X3 Sports Activity Vehicle using BMW's "Dream It. Build It. Drive It." program. Martha used the "Build Your Own" online tool on bmwusa.com to customize her own BMW X3.
Customization is a specialty for the new BMW X3, the vehicle has more than 70 million unique configurations. Martha Stewart designed her X3xDrive35i to have a Sparkling Bronze Metallic exterior, one of three special exterior colors that are only available for BMW X3 custom orders. Martha's BMW X3 has a Sand Beige Nevada Leather interior and Fineline Wave Wood Interior Trim.
Recently, Martha and "The Martha Stewart Show" crew went to Spartanburg, South Carolina to watch the production of her BMW X3. Martha experienced firsthand where BMW makes all BMW X3, X5 and X6 vehicles for customers around the world and interviewed the people who make them. The last stop of the day was the BMW Performance Center where Martha tested out the Ultimate Driving Machine on BMW's own track.
Viewers can watch Martha's visit to BMW on Tuesday, December 14 at 10 am ET/9 c on "The Martha Stewart Show" on Hallmark Channel. During the show, Martha will get the keys to her very own BMW and viewers will be encouraged to keep watching the show to find out how to enter for a chance to win their own BMW X3.
In 2004 BMW introduced a new concept to the market: the small, premium Sports Activity Vehicle with all-road capability and unparalleled driving dynamics. The first generation BMW X3 became a best seller and the new, second generation BMW X3 builds on the success of the original, now with significantly increased space, functionality, efficiency and driving comfort. The new BMW X3 is produced at BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina plant and will be on showroom floors of US BMW Centers in January 2011.

I'm waiting for the Sarah Palin Edition X3: moose antlers on the hood and bear skin
seat covers. I'm sure it will pull way to the right (as in some of the early production F10s).
All of this Martha Stewart stuff reminds me of William Wordsworth's sonnet, "The
World is Too Much With Us."
Also waiting for the Dennis Rodman Edition. That should be a hoot.

Martha Stewart, huh?---pretty much ruins the new X3 as a choice for me. Ever.

I updated the first post with a video of her trip to Spartanburg -

Wow talk about brand dilution. Cant wait for the Oprah edition of the X5.

I remember an Eddie Bauer edition of the Ford Explorer or maybe it was the Jeep.
I can see the LL Bean edition of the X3 but Martha Stewart? Really? So instead of getting a set of snow shoes with your X3 you get a set of pots and pans? Really?
December 20, 2010, 8:53 am
Another advantage of the Martha Stewart Edition is that the well
known BMW new car smell is replaced by the scent of freshly-baked
chocolate chip cookies.

"Customization is a specialty for the new BMW X3, the vehicle has more than 70 million unique configurations"
Can they make 70million and one: 6spd manual?
December 20, 2010, 8:58 pm
X3 isn't for me, but with Martha fawning over it, it will never, ever be considered!
December 20, 2010, 11:02 pm
Don't think this is the kind of thing I would promote.
Shows their marketing team is way out of touch with their client base.
December 21, 2010, 11:34 am
they are after socker moms now, trying to impress them.
December 22, 2010, 3:16 pm
Most X5 owners are soccer moms, and BMW fully intends to get more of them into the X3.
December 23, 2010, 4:48 pm
I can't wait to see Martha's telecast showing how to hot-glue sequins to the X3 wheel hubs.
December 29, 2010, 3:29 am
Wasn't it funny when he said hers was the first Bronze in the US. That will not be a popular color. They think they are so smart. All they did was take the unpopular colors like Bronze, Red, etc and call them exclusives. Wy make them and have them sit on the lot unsold.
Martha Stewart chose bronze with tan seats...yuck.
December 29, 2010, 4:04 am
Maybe the X5, but most X3 owners are male.
Just like most miata owners are male.
Perception is not always reality.
Plus soccor Moms don't really buy into Martha Stewart..old ladies do.
December 31, 2010, 5:57 pm
I'll gladly order one if they will let me build it with a classic manual gearbox, just like my wife's e83. She does not want to give up the third pedal. We have a 2004 that we would like to replace soon, but apparently BMW is not offering a 6 speed in the states anymore. Does anyone know of a way to get this option here?

I saw the commercial today and it looked "chubby" and uncool. They should move away from targeting women and families in the commercials. It just makes it look less cool. lol
I guess that's what they are targeting.

Auto enthusiast types like us tend to buy a car then hold onto it for 6-7 years. On the other hand, your average American buyer doesn't want to deal with repair costs after warranty, so they'll just lease a new car when time's up every 3 years. They're also more likely to go for higher-profit options like sat nav and backup cameras.

I just hated the commercial...even the music. They need to have one like this one...

too riske for Americans I guess...lol

IDK. If you put guys in the commercials, women will still buy it. They just must be careful with the soccer mom image. They should have a commercial where a single bachelor has a car and many women are chasing him because they think it is cool...lol

I have to say even though this is an X1, the guy is a jerk to sit there and film her with trouble instead of going to help...then she runs it into his house. I guess it's good he didn't go outside. What kind of neighbor is he? lol

I have to say that as Fugly as the original X3 is I like it better than the new one.
I finally got around to flipping through the pages of the BMW Mag. From their shots, it looks like the Hyundai Tucson.
All the cars are melding into one giant crossover. If you take the emblems and names off of cars, can you tell which is which?
Maybe it looks more distinctive in person.
