BMW 7 Series F01 facelift LCI spied
With the F01 7 Series entering its third year in production its time for BMW to give it a "facelift" or Life Cycle Impulse (LCI). Basically BMW tweaks the look of the design to keep it fresh throughout the 7 year production schedule. This normally includes front and rear bumper updates, refined headlight and taillight designs and a few tweaks to equipment packages and offerings. Car Scoop reports -

Quote:
Our spies snagged a lightly camouflaged prototype of the 7-Series bearing the ActiveHybrid 7 badges while testing in Germany. Judging by the parts of the car hidden under masking tape, there should be some minor styling changes to the front and rear bumpers as well as to the headlamps and tail light graphics.

Stay tuned as more of the face lifted F01 7 Series is revealed.

Its looks EXACTLY like the 5 series.. If I did not read the headline I would have thought it was a 5 series...

Only thing that looks different is the front fascia.
Frankly, I think that's a good thing.
The main reason I got a M-Sport is that I don't really like the standard front fascia.

I really think it's the other way around, particularly since the F10 followed the F01/02. Besides, although the 5 Series is quite attractive, there's a discernable difference when you look at the 7 next to the 5.

The New F series Fails completely. BMW lost my vote with this production, I guess I'll just have to wait 5-6 years for the next version.

I don't like the turn signals on the mirrors, otherwise the LED's will make this car perfect .

I doubt that is anything more than orange tape - BMW frequently does that on test mules as part of the disguise.
Looks like the traditional side-repeaters are there under black tape - also part of the disguise.

doesn't have the crease in the hood that the 5 series has

Hope the M Sport Pack facelift comes with differentiated side skirts!

And, difficult to tell, but are the kidney grilles in the spy shot at all different from the current model?

It seems like the design is creeping back to where they started with the E3X models. Which is a good thing, if they'd just hurry the hell up and toss the camry look out the window.

Will this get the 8 speed tranny?

honestly in my 5 series loaners I have had, it looks quite bad ass with that crease. Very nicely done.

I do wonder if the 5 series is the new bread and butter for BMW. It seems to get more of the attention in design than the 7...almost as if the 7 has taken a backseat even though it had the new body style first.

I want what you're drinking!

I read this post yesterday and, with your assessment in mind and while driving home, happened to pull along side an LS460...not even close! The LS460 and 7Series are distinctly different in looks and not even first cousins. [Note that I am not bashing the LS; just pointing out that it and the 7Series are not look-alikes.]

Perhaps so. It's all about volume...BMW sells far more 5Series than 7Series cars.

Agreed the FO1 looks nothing like the LS460.

Between the Porsche Panamera, BMW F01, Benz S, Maserati Quattroporte, I think the F01 loooks closest to the LS460. At least from the rear.

+1. I wish BMW would keep the Europe-style fender repeaters where they are (on the fender) rather than go with the flow. Plus turning it into a HUGE orange band rather than clear?

No, it still has the single-crease hood, looks like the current 7 rather than the multi-crease F10 hood.

Actually, hasn't the 3 been the "bread and butter"? Highest-end models rarely have the production volume to be the leader of the revenue stream.

I think there is scientific theory behind this - http://papers.sae.org/2005-01-0449/

It's probably unnecessary to do this in the USA where drivers are so much better than in Europe.

Guys, it's orange tape. It's part of the disguise.

Looks exactly the same as the current car aside from the tape and masking. Same color as mine that I see everyday and I can't tell a difference at all. Are you sure this is even pictures of an updated model?
