Frozen Silver 2012 BMW M3 Competition Edition

To honor the 40 years since the founding of BMW M in 1972, production for the United States of these very special M3 Coupes will be limited to 40 identically-equipped cars. Each features BMW Individual Frozen Silver Metallic exterior paint with a deep metallic luster to accentuate the athletic lines of the legendary M3. The unique exterior treatment also includes black hood intakes and dark chrome exterior trim, including the kidney grills, the M side gills and the exhaust tips. Black M3 GTS wheels complete the striking exterior. The interior features black Extended Novillo Leather with unique palladium silver accents and palladium silver-contrast stitching on front seats, headrests, door trim panels / handles, center console, and center armrest. The interior is further distinguished with an Alcantara-covered multi-function M steering wheel with M3 Checkered Flag logo inlay. The door sill finishers also feature the M3 Checkered Flag logo while the handbrake lever sports an embroidered M Power logo. As a final touch, genuine Carbon Fiber trims the dash and center console. The 2012 BMW M3 Competition Edition will be offered for an MSRP of $81,060 including destination and handling.

Unlike previous M3 Edition models, one each of the 40 2012 M3 Competition Edition models has been allocated to the first 40 US authorized BMW centers to become M Certified Centers. Know which dealers have a Frozen Silver M3? Let us know!

Ugh. If they really wanted these to be a commemorative edition then perhaps they should have made them manual only- even better, they should have offered a stripped down M3, sort of like a GTS without the engine mods or something.

I ordered a 2012 M3 coupe several weeks ago. While choosing the specs on the car with my CA, we noticed a Frozen Silver Edition M3 in the dealerspeed system. The car was at the VPC awaiting delivery to the dealership. The CA, sales manager, and I were discussing the car and it's $9400 premium over a "standard" M3. As this was prior to the announcement by BMWNA, we could only speculate that it was another special edition similar to the Frozen Gray and Frozen Black models, but didn't know anything for sure at the time.

Unless something has recently changed, Fields BMW in Lakeland, FL is getting one of the 40. They are a great small town dealership and have treated me very well over the years.

Only downside is the Alcantara steering wheel...personal experience. What's wrong with suede?

Beautiful car.
With that being said there are two drawbacks to this particular model.
1: the obvious one is that it's only available with the dual clutch.
2: when you buy this car, the dealership makes you sign an agreement that you understand the care the "frozen" paint finish requires.

BMW's Suggestions to avoid paint damage -

-Never polish or wax the frozen gray paint as it could lead to a glossy surface.
-If washing your frozen gray M3 in a automatic car wash (you should be killed) choose a car wash that does not apply vehicle wax. Rinse the M3 with high pressure water to remove dirt before sending it through the automatic car wash to avoid scratches from sand, dust and other micro-particles.
-Remove bugs, bird poo, tree sap, tar, fuel spills or oil immediately using a soft sponge.
-Avoid strong rubbing while cleaning the frozen paint. BMW sells suitable products for maintaining the frozen paint at your local dealer.
-Repairs to the paint (scratches, dents, etching) must be completed by a BMW trained body shop. Most auto body shop will not be capable of repairing the frozen gray paint.

The agreement goes on to explicitly state that the warranty does not cover the frozen gray paint if it is damage by the owner as a result of negligence, lack of maintenance or proper care, environmental damage or improper repairs.

Only once the agreement is signed and returned to BMW will their car be shipped to them. Without signing the notice you're not getting your shiny new (or in this case matte) 2011 BMW Frozen Gray M3
