We're #1!!! BMW Takes The Luxury Brand Crown in USA!!
by Jon Shafer on January 4, 2012, 2:19 pm
"December 2011 was epic and one for the history books. Business soared as consumers seeking the Ultimate Driving Machine visited BMW Dealerships in record numbers. This fitting finish capped off a phenomenal year that has BMW finishing 2011 as the Number One luxury automotive brand in the US.

This honor and distinction is a testament to both the strength and desirability of our product line-up and the men and women who bring the brand to life on a daily basis. This is an unbeatable combination and one that represents a tremendous competitive advantage in the marketplace. This relationship will only grow stronger in the New Year. Given all of the great, new product opportunities and a distinct commitment to being the best, 2012 is looking very bright. However, for the time being, relish being NUMBER ONE and from all of us at BMW, thank you for all of your hard work in helping us reach this phenomenal milestone."

I knew BMW would come out on top with all of the great incentives. I did my part to help by picking up two new cars from BMW this year. If BMW continues to do good stuff I ll get another in 2012....

Is this really a surprise? Anyone who knows anything knew that this wasn't even a competition! Excellence comes standard!

Picked up our Z4 in Feb! That makes 2 currently in garage and #5 overall. Can't wait to get #6 in 2013...Euro delivery!!

I read where Lexus had owned the top spot since 2000. Had BMW ever won this b4?

It won't be as easy next year. Lexus took a big hit with the tsunami supply problems.

Yahoo didn't actually have the true sales numbers...they are using their "Credible Sources" that seem VERY Mercedes skewed. The just reportted a headline SOMEONE(guess who?) wanted them to.

BTW...quiet is kept but my F01 order was actually the ONE that put BMW over the top and I heard they are going to give me the car free...NO, NOT really! lol!

This is a BMW press release not a guesstimate from a Yahoo freelance reporter

Oh...BMW posted 305,418 vehicles sold...Yahoo said their estimate was 248,073. That's a major gap since BMW sold more than Yahoo's number last year! See how and why reporters are actually called "Liars"?

A great end to the year, but I'm not so sure it's appropriate for BMW to talk in that internal message about relishing being "Number 1" and the "honor and distinction" of selling more than its competitors when the primary reason for the "win" is that the company which has been the US sales leader in the segment for years was so badly impacted by a devastating earthquake. I'd have expected a little something of an acknowledgement of that in the messaging. Lexus lost the US sales segment crown in large part due to the devastation in Japan. With that in mind, perhaps BMW might have been just a little more gracious in the messaging....

So I'm driving a "Luxury Car"? Who knew? I thought it was just a great car designed to meet all my needs.
