The BMW M6 returns in a big way with the F13 M6 coupe and the F12 M6 convertible. The third generation M6 boast and impressive list of technology and more power then any other M car ever produced. We dive into the technical specifications (Euro specs, US specs to follow) and break down the M6 into its impressive raw numbers.

BMW M6 Coupe Body Details
- 2 Door, 4 Seater with carbon fiber roof. Sun roof not available.
- Length – 192.8 inches. An increase of 1" from the E63/64 M6
- Width – 74.7" an increase of 1.4" from the previous M6
- Height – 53.8" Negligible difference in height.
- Wheelbase 112.2" an increase of 2.7". This moves the the wheels further to the corner, increasing performance.
- Weight – 4078lbs, an increase of 169lbs despite extensive use of weight saving materials.
- Luggage Capacity – 460L
- Drag Coefficient .33, an increase of .01
BMW M6 Convertible Body Details
- 2 Door, 4 Seater with motorized soft top
- Roof opens in 19 seconds and closes in 24 seconds
- Length – 192.8 inches. An increase of 1" from the E63/E64 M6
- Width – 74.7" an increase of 1.4" from the previous M6
- Height – 53.8" Negligible difference in height.
- Wheelbase 112.2" an increase of 2.7". This moves the the wheels further to the corner, increasing performance.
- Weight – 4325 lbs, impressively dropping 73lbs from the outgoing M6 convertible.
- Luggage Capacity – 300-350 (top down/up)
- Drag Coefficient .33, a decrease of .01

BMW M6 Engine Details
The M6 Coupe and convertible share the same S63tu engine. This is the same turbo V8 engine which powers the F10 M5. Not to be confused with the S63 which is similar to, but not as powerful, and found in the X5 M and X6 M.
- Cylinders – 8 in 90 V configuration. Two less then the V10 E63/E64 M6
- Engine size – 4.4 liter
- Compression ratio – 10:1
- Max PSI – Maximum pressure from the two twin-scroll turbos is 21.7 psi
- Horsepower – 560 available between 6000 and 7000 RPMS. Besting the old M6 by 60 HP and available 1750 RPMs lower in the power band.
- Torque – 500 lbs-ft available at just 1500 RPMs. Out twisting the V10 in the old M6 by 117 lb-ft. That's more torque then many small cars have in total!
- Fuel capacity – 21.1 gallons, a much needed increase from the easily emptied 18.5 gallon tank on the E63/64.
The F12/13 M6 is the most powerful M car ever made, and from the engine specs you can see why. What does the M6 do with 560 hp and 500lbs-ft of tq? It moves, and it moves very quickly!
- Power to weight ratio (lbs/hp) – 7.3 lbs per HP coupe / 7.7lbs per HP convertible
- 0-62 mph (0-100kph) – 4.2 seconds for the coupe, 4.3 for the convertible. , .2 seconds quicker then the old M6
- 50-75 mph (80-120kph) – 3.6 seconds in 4th gear. 4.5 seconds in 5th gear.
- 0-124pmg – 12.6 seconds for the coupe, 13.1 for the convertible.
- Top speed – Electronically limited to 155mph, but I'm sure it can go faster!
- Transmission – 7 speed M double clutch with Drivelogic
- Standard front brakes – 6 piston fixed caliper riding on 15.7" rotors
- M Carbon ceramic front brakes (optional) – 6 piston fixed caliper in special M ceramic brake gold color riding on massive 16.1" carbon ceramic rotors. Requires 20" M light-alloy wheels
- Standard rear brakes – 1 piston floating caliper on 15.6" rotors
- M Carbon ceramic rear brakes (optional) – 1 piston caliper on 15.6" rotors. Requires 20" M light-alloy wheels
- Steering- Hydraulic rack and pinion with M servotronic

BMW M6 Wheels and Tires Details
The M6 comes standard on 19" wheels and tires with optional 20" wheels available. The optional 20" wheels are required to clear the massive carbon ceramic brake option.
- Standard M6 wheel and tire combination is a 19x9.5" wheel in the front with ultra-high performance summer tires in 265/40/19 and 19x10.5" wheels in the rear with 295/35/19 tires.
- The optional 20-inch M light-alloy wheels hint at reduced weight five slender double-spokes. Wheel and tire sizing has not yet been released.
BMW M6 Weight Saving
The M6 has grown at least an inch in each direction as well as packed on a lot of technology and safety. To avoid a performance penalty from the additional potential weight BMW has tapped is extensive light weight materials knowledge and used weight saving throughout construction of the 2012/2013 M6.
- Hood and doors are made of aluminum
- Front fenders are made of thermoplastics
- M6 coupe roof is made from carbon fiber
- Trunk lid made from glass fiber composite (sheet molding compound – SMC)
- Convertible roof cover made from glass fiber composite (sheet molding compound – SMC)

The BMW M6 is not only the pinnacle of BMW chassis and engine engineering but also features the best BMW technology as well as M exclusive technology.
- Brake energy regeneration
- Auto Stop-Start
- Dynamic Damper Control (DDC) electronically controlled shock absorbers
- Black panel display technology for instrument cluster
- M Head Up Display (HUD) – Complete with current gear and shift light.
- M Drive system allowing custom setup for: engine, steering, DCT setting, DSC, suspension and HUD
Get your BMW M6
The BMW M6 arrives at US dealers this summer. The convertible leads the way with a June launch as a 2012 model year. The coupe follows a few months later, August or September, as a 2013 model year. No word on pricing yet, but estimates of $105,000 for the coupe and $110,000 for the convertible are not out of line.

New beast is awesome but I am surprised to see the coefficient Drag still at .32 when the new E Coupe from Mercedes is .24 Would have been nice to have seen them get it below .30 Otherwise I really like it. Last but not least it would have been even better if it were 200-300 lbs. lighter.
