Spied: 2013 F31 3 Series Touring Sheds Most of the Camo for the Camera

2013 BMW F31 3 Series Touring Spy Shot

We are excited to have received some pictures from our spies showing the upcoming 3 Series touring F31 with just minimal camo on the back of the car. You can clearly make out the lines of the car now and it gives all you touring enthusiasts a chance to finally get excited!

The questions that still remain include what motors will be available in the touring in this generation and when the US market is actually going to get the car. All signs point to a August/September sales release along with the release of the xDrive 3 Series sedan models.

Now that you can see more of the lines of the touring, what do you think? Are you putting down a deposit yet?

When I got to the photo that is perpendicular to the vehicle (3rd to last photo) and the photo after it, ignoring the remaining camo, seems a bit longer and weightier in the rear than I would have preferred.

I'm thinking either this, or a Mini Countryman JCW, if not an X1 [doubtful it'll be getting an X3], will be my next auto purchase.

Maybe it's the color combo and lighting, but that car looks absolutely fantastic! I just put an order in for a 2012 E91 because I wasn't impressed with the N20, but if they bring the 335xiT with a MT here I may be kicking myself!

Do we know what engines will be offered? Everything I read seems to confirm the N20, but not the N55.

Thanks,

looks nice, much nicer than the B8 avant

Looks very nice! Not sure Justin, I'd have to see them side by side because the Avant is definitely a looker IMO, but I know you are anti-Audi.

Can't see a lot of difference to the E91?

Sure, as soon as I see 320d or 325d on the hatch lid.

Nonetheless, this thing is absolutely gorgeous looking. Maybe just a tad too big for my wife's tastes. We shall see. However, no diesel and no MT -> no deal.

The touring looks nice!

I bet it'll be N20 only. Hopefully enough people will buy it to keep it coming over.

May be just about perfect. Gonna give this a good long look when options are unveiled: engine, wheel sizes, suspension, sport driving seats, hatch dimensions.......

No doubt, F31 > F30 .

First-time poster and current Audi Avant owner here. After purchasing three new A4s since 1999 (the last two of which were manual transmission Avants including our current '07 S-Line) it looks like the F31 Touring will be our next vehicle.

I've loved our Avants and would buy another but with no 6spd manual offered I've been closely monitoring any news regarding the F31. At this point, only two things would prevent me from a Euro delivery of a new touring: if the car is not offered with a manual transmission and if there has been no increase in the cargo area compared to the current gen touring. Coming from Quattro and living in Minnesota I'd prefer all-wheel drive but would probably still buy if rear-wheel drive were the only offering.

The outgoing 3 series wagon just did not have enough useable cargo space to work for our family (to me it was more of a glorified hatchback) so I am really hoping that BMW addressed this with the F31. Hopefully we'll see a pic or two of the cargo area in the near future.

Love the Sport Wagons in general. Does the bottom half of the nose cone looks all messed up and out of line in these picts, or is it just me? Yes, a Turbo Diesel would be an exceptionally awesome idea, but doubt we'll see it here in North America.

RWD, Manual, with TurboDiesel --- that's where my deposit will go!

Diesel, I'll fork over money now!

Sweet looking car! Thank you for sharing!! I hear in the fall they will offer a diesel, followed by an hybrid in 2013.

I like it a lot. I'd get one regardless of which engine/trans. combo they bring over.

F31 touring + manual transmission + diesel + xDrive and it'll be the first brand new car I ever purchase. Why? Because I've said the first automaker to offer one (Audi/BMW), I'll buy one.. and I gotta keep my word!

I don't particularly care which diesel.. I think I'd prefer something on the higher output end (ie, 335d) but sure wouldn't mind a smaller 6 or even the 4-banger if it comes down to it. It's not so much about the fuel economy, it's just more about the inherent efficiency, torque, and over-the-road cruising of the diesel -- I want the ultimate roadtrip mobile.

Having had an E34 touring, an E39 touring, an E46 touring, and an E61, we will definitely be getting the F31.
Make mine with 6MT & Msport. I'll be fine with the N20.
Looking forward to repeating European Delivery (hoping for fall!)

Immediate thoughts, in this order:

- That front overhang is huge for a BMW. The rounded bumper distracts from it, but that's alot of body hanging out over the front wheels. Boo.

- That is one gorgeous greenhouse and reminds me of BMWs of yore.

- In terms of size, it looks like a slimmed down e60 wagon....perfect size for what I like...

- If BMW doesn't offer this in a manual, people gonna be pissed

Continuing the trend, the touring variant looks better than its sedan counterpart

Too bad I can't afford one even if a miracle happened and it came in a 4-cyl diesel with 6-speed manual and rear-wheel drive.

I think ED on one of these will be on the cards next year, really hope the spec they decide to bring over isn't too limited. Scared of all the 'line' stuff, I'd like to be able to make it a miniature version of my (leased returned) E61.

Nope. Just because it has a roundel on the front doesn't make it better

The B8 Audi A4 Avant is possibly one of the best wagons on the market. Audi hit a home run on the design

that being said, the wagon looks better than the sedan for this car. Good job BMW!

Love the B8 Avant, but no stick, no sale. I'd buy one otherwise. They also don't offer it with DSG (the acceptable-as-a-compromise tranny) and no TDI anyway. And it's entirely discontinued in the US for 2013 in exchange for the A4 allroad.

I'll give Audi one thing- the Allroad is way better than BMW's fugly GT!
