Who's Getting M Performance Parts Black Out Grills?

by Tim Jones on April 26, 2012, 5:42 pm
BMW F30 3 Series M Performance Parts

We installed a set of these on the Bimmerfest Project 328i and it completely changes the look of the car! Turner Motorsport has them on their site for $129.90 (link) and I think they're well worth it.

It is a quick DIY with 8 clips per grill, I'll get a full DIY for anyone that wants it up soon.

What does everyone think?

Could you post a pic of the whole car including the new grille? Thanks!

I just asked the CA to install before delivery. I didn't want to mess with that.

You could try out plastidip and see if you like it. Atleast if your not feelin' the look, then you can take it off....

Is it just me or are the slats spaced further apart than on the stock grilles?

It looks great. I was thinking of installing on my 545I Black on Black.

Anyone who is not going to install the grills themselves, what alternative are you going with for installation?

Id might just get them through my dealer and tell them the only way i buy them is if they install them for me

Looks awesome. Are they plastic like the originals, or metal? I have to say I was surprised when I went to touch the 328i sport grill and it was plastic. Do you have a before/after pic?

Wonder how hard these are to replace.

Personal preferences of course but I like the factory grills on my Alpine White car. However, I agree that the satin silver whiskers are out of place. I took mine off last night and painted them. Will put them back on today and will take some photos. I looked up the link to buy a new pair painted - $75. Are you kidding????????????

I really didn't think the $75 was that exorbitant. Do they just snap out, or are they secured from the inside?

They are plastic. They are made by BMW so the quality, fit, finish and material is exactly the same as stock.

I took some pictures of the entire car, I'll post them today.

The whiskers snap out. One could also just take them off and do a bit of work filling and filing to eliminate them entirely.

I know what you mean; $75 for a small part you already have doesn't make a whole lot of sense to purchase if you can just paint yourself. That's why I powder coated my stock wheels as opposed to buying a $5k set from BMW.

Nice touch...post some pics.

Tim, was that your interview with the M Performance parts manager? I, along with the rest of the F12/F13 guys, would love to know when those parts will come here!

Yes, I interviewed Eric Riehle about the BMW M Performance Parts. I'll reach out to him and see if I can get an update for you.

Thanks. I, along with other F12/F13 guys, are trying to find the black grills that are shown on the BMW M Performance website. No dealer seems to know what I'm talking about, and there is no part # on the site. Makes it hard to spend money :-)

Much appreciated.

And yes, they will actually mark this on a lease return. Ask me how I know....I had to go back to the dealer the next day and bring the old stock parts with me on my 335 lease return.

Hmmm, if that's the case then just order a stock set for $150 +/- and you'll have a stock pair for the lease return.

I'm selling the stockers from my 535 so I'm sure you could even find a used set around here...

If you're going to buy a stock set and paint them why not just buy the M Performance Parts that come painted black already?

For leased cars the M Performance Parts can be counted as part of the residual value. I have a chart somewhere I'll try to get up on the site after Bimmerfest.

I was only offering that route if they didn't have them for his car...I remember one of the CA's at my dealership telling me he couldn't find them for his new 7 series.

Trying!

My car should finally get here on Saturday, and I've struck out on every aftermarket part I want. It was so easy getting things like black grills, carbon fiber emblems, painted reflectors, etc. for my E92. There just doesn't seem to be a market for the F12/13.
