F80 M3 Front Bumper Revealed - M6 Style Bumper for the New M3

BMW F80 M3 bumper revealed - Designed similar to M6

The F80 M3 front bumper has all but been reveled. BMW tested this F80 M3 with just a cloth covering over the front bumper and gave our spy photographers a great opportunity to capture the design. The design borrows much from the F12/F13 M6, especially the left and right large openings with the flared whisker design. Looking at the design more closely you can see several differences from the M6. The left and right opening angle in and down on the top edge to meet a shorter center opening. The M3 show does not have a splitter like the M6 coupe in the comparison picture. That may be added later or might not be offered at all.

In comparison to the F10 M5 or the F30 M Sport the bumper is clearly more aggressive. The F30 M5 lacks whisker effect that are see on the F80 M3 as well as the F12/F13 M6. There is a similar effect on the F30 M Sport bumper with a two plane design on the top of the left and right openings, but no where as angular as the M3 or M6.

The F80 M3 is the sedan M car based on the F30 platform. With over 80% of the F80 being unique and different from the non-M F30 BMW will be giving all future M cars their own chassis code. The F80 M3 will be powered by an inline 6 cylinder with twin turbos based on the N54. The 400 plus HP will be put to the ground using the active M differential technology found in the F10 M5 and F12/F13 M6. We're also expecting a significant weight savings over the outgoing M3.

BMW is removing camouflage off the F80 M3 quicker then expected. Could this mean they intend to release the F80 M3 sedan significantly before the F82 M4 coupe? It would be an interesting maneuver from BMW, but as we've seen with the 4 series renaming, the times they are a changing.

I hope the headlights don't get involved with the grill like the F30. I personally think it is a mofugly design.

+1 and think we're in luck...

The pics pretty much confirm the headlights don't extend to the grill...unless they have some extra cladding below the camo tape, not likely.

also that wont be the real grill, the real grill will most likely have fewer slots

The ATS is attempting to catch the M3. LOL

Not that BMW would necessarily do this, but maybe its an ATS modded with supercharger or that they're testing the suspension/handling/speed against. The magnetorheologic shocks are pretty good (so much that Ferrari licenses the technology), the ATS will naturally be a 3 series competitor since it has similar dimensions and weight they just want to ensure that the M3 will be capable of outhandling an inevitable ATS-V.

I'm sure that BMW won't want an ATS-V to show up in a year or two that undercuts BMW on price and performance. In the performance smart sedan market, people are more likely to buy the better value than in the higher M5 price range.

Most of us would purchase an ATS-V if it delivered M3 or better performance for loaded 335 money.

The headlights will go all the way to the grills on the F80 M3 as well as the 4 series, sorry. I didn't like it at first but it grew on me and I really like it now.

Why does it seem like there is more out on the M3 that isn't supposed to be out for 2 years compared to the coupe which is less than a year away?

Could be an indication BMW plans to roll the M3 sedan out around the same time we see the F32 4 series coupe. Or it could be they're just not that worried about it as the design is so similar to the F30 sedan

I don't mind it on like the Luxury model, but it's too glitzy for the M3, IMO.

eeep - looks like the E9x M3 coupe is going to be the last decent looking M3.

I still say that if BMW does change the coupe to the 4 series, there is no way it will have the same headlight design as the sedan.Even the E90 and E92 have different headlights and they are the same series.

I was excited and waiting for the new F80 M3 (didn't like the design of an E92 M3 and V8) but from what I see so far, it looks like I'll stuck with my E46 M3 for a while...

Front bumper has been revealed. Wow. Is this really worth interfering with real information? Not IMO.

Someone should start selling those cladding that seperates the headlights extending to the grille, I bet they will make a bundle. I must say, this version of the M3 is one of my least flavorite.
