Turner Motorsport wrapped up its 19th year of professional motorsport on Sept. 29th at the GRAND-AM Championship Weekend at Lime Rock Park presented by BMW.
One of the few teams in the paddock to race in both the Rolex Sports Car and Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series meant four BMW M3s would race in two races totaling 5.25 hours in just one day, but that is just how seriously the team takes this sport. They have been racing – and winning – in BMWs for 19 years.
"I'd like to thank everyone who supports us – sponsors, family and fans," said Will Turner. "Finishing up the season at our home track - Lime Rock Park – reminds the team why we race. We almost need an extra day just to make sure we can say hello to everyone. We are very excited to see what our 20th year will bring."
Rolex Sports Car Series -
With an increased focus on the GT effort this season one of the team's goals was to move third-year GT driver Paul Dalla Lana as high as they could in the final driver point standings. Last season, with a concentrated Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge program, Dalla Lana won the Grand Sport driver's championship and was awarded the BMW Sport Trophy as the best privateer BMW driver in the world.
In this season's Rolex series Dalla Lana was again supported by co-driver Bill Auberlen. Billy Johnson supported the pair in the longer races. Putting together a nine race streak, including two victories, in which the No. 94 M3 did not finish less than fifth Dalla Lana ended the 13-race season third in GT driver points. Turner Motorsport also finished third in the Team standings.
Turner continued, "We are pleased that we were able to put Paul on the "podium" in GT driver points. To have moved up from 7th in 2011 to 3rd in 2012 in such a competitive class is a notable accomplishment. Over the offseason, we will be focused on improving the team and our equipment and will be ready to make a Championship charge in 2013.
