F30 320i configurator

Right on the heals of the F30 320i announcement BMWUSA.com has released the online configurator for the new entry level 3 series.

Starting at $33,445 for the rear wheel drive variant and $35,445 for xDrive all wheel drive prospective owners can quickly option the car into the forty thousand dollar price range. There are no "trim line" options for the 320i but packages and stand alone options include:
  • Metallic paint - $550
  • Dakota leather - $1450
  • Dark burl walnut wood trim - $500
  • Cold weather package - $950
    • Requires Dakota leather
  • Premium package - $3200
  • Driver assistance package - $950
  • Lighting package - $900
  • Sport package - $1300
  • Heated front seats - $500
  • Split fold down rear seats - $475
  • Moonroof - $1050
  • Navigation systems - $2150
    • Requires BMW Assist
      • Requires Navigation
  • BMW Apps - $250
  • Anti-theft alarm system - $400
  • BMW Assist with enhanced Bluetooth and USB - $650

Adding every option the MSRP ended up at $46,120. Building a 320i I would actually buy I ended up at $37,670 which is basically what my E46 330i cost in 2001 with the same specifications. Pricing out a similarly optioned F30 328i MSRP was $42,695, which is a $5000 premium over the 320i.

Engine Comparison Details: 320i vs 328i

BMW has setup a great entry level F30 3 series. Build your own and let us know what it would set you back.

Tim - What has been done to the car to de-tune the n2x engine? Is it a different turbo? Different exhaust system? Or just different software?

I.e. is the n2x in this car simply a software tune away from being what the 328 offers?

Actually, I believe the 320i xDrive only comes with 8 speed AT. The website just shows the wrong shifter in the picture.

Looks like an attempt to adhere to the CAFE standards.

It will be interesting to know if the turbo/engine can be tuned/chipped to be in the ballpark of the 328i.

Interesting that in the config it does not do the lines, but rather sport is just an add on like the old days. I prefer this.

BTW, Cold package requires leather? I never noticed that when I ordered my 2012 F30.

Pricing out the cars I would order for my wife later this year, I agree with Tim...it's about a $5000-$5500 savings to get the 320i...but it would be less of a car.

They should do cold weather independent of premium. But I think for F3X you need ZPP for ZCP. They should also make Power front seats with driver seat memory as independent option.

I also read that the 320i xDrive will not have a manual trans available, but I am seeing what you guys are seeing on the website. Also on the specifications page for the 320i xDrive model it shows both MT and AT specs.

The press release says "Owners will appreciate the incredibly flexible 8-speed automatic transmission, while drivers seeking maximum involvement may opt for a traditional 6-speed manual on the non-xDrive 320i."

Conflicting information, but I'm guessing the configurator is just wrong, wrong, wrong.
