Climb to the Clouds 5, June 29 in the White Mountains of NH
On June 29 Bimmerfesters driving any BMW model will meet for our fifth annual tour of the White Mountains! The 'high point' of the day will be an ascent of Mt. Washington (it's the "Climb to the Clouds"). It's possibly the most intense drive opportunity east of Pike's Peak. Braving a seven mile long, steeply twisting road without guardrails, with spectacular views in occasionally very challenging weather will be an adventure you'll not soon forget.

Along the way we'll cross a covered bridge, possibly dodge a moose or two, tour the Kancamagus Highway (a US Scenic Byway), and experience Bear Notch Road -the condensed Dragon's Tail of NH.

We are looking into a BBQ lunch at the MWAR base lodge this year, and adding to the tour for CtoC vets who might want to get a look at a waterfall or The Flume Gorge. Details to follow later as we check things out.

We'll wrap it up with old and new friends meeting for a banquet at a country inn. This year we'll revisit the Woodstock Inn Station and Brewery which has undergone major expansion and renovation with an all new banquet room downstairs.

As we have in years past, following dinner we'll have an auction to raise a donation for charity. We have supported Susan G Komen for the Cure, and Voluntary Services Overseas. This year we have selected Survive the Drive to support. I'll leave it to Captainaudio to describe the wonderful work they do to educate youngsters in the critical skills of road safety. Bimmerfest members have been very generous in the past, both in donations for the auction, and the bidding on the items up for auction. Suffice to say, the auction is a fun and fitting end to the day.

If you'd like to get some sense of what this is all about, here's a link to last year's thread for CtoC4. Take a look at the photos and read the comments. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...948&highlight=

Here are the URL's for the sights we'll see, and a Google Map of the tour and meeting points.

This Google Map was used in previous tours and will be modified for some new scenery this year. All the highlights will remain, but there'll be some new roads of interest to the veterans.

SurvivetheDrive®
Your Best Behind The Wheel: A Teen Driver Safety Program
http://www.survivethedrive.org
Survive the Drive is an organization that promotes safe driving by teenagers and educates them on the consequences of unsafe driving practices. Survive the Drive was founded by Bob Green, Bob is an experienced racer, a Senior Skip Barber Racing School Instructor and drives the BMW M3 Pace Car at Lime Rock Park. Well known racers Sam Posey, Bob Sharp are on the board of directors of Survive the Drive as was the late John Fitch until his death last year.
This is a very worthy cause and is especially applicable to our event as it is automobile related and as many of the Climb to the Clouds participants are parents of young drivers.
SurvivetheDrive® is an independent, not-for-profit, educational organization educating drivers of all ages, particularly vulnerable and inexperienced teenage drivers, about the often hideous and everlasting results of inattentive driving.

The primary goal is to reach every newly or soon-to-be licensed teen (or adult) through the use of a multi-media presentation by Bob Green. He focuses the students on the detrimental activity of texting, reading, drinking, phoning and any other activities that remove conscious understanding of the ever-present operational hazards of heavy, moving equipment. Bob calls this type of driving 'Driving While Oblivious' (DWO) and results in driver error in 93% of all crashes. Past and present novice driver training and DMV driver testing results have been shown to have little deterrent effect on these crash rates.

SurvivetheDrive presentations can be scheduled as a single assembly or as an accompanying presentation that will focus on each student's competence and the desire to be their "Best Behind the Wheel."

MT WASHINGTON HOTEL UPDATES HERE

3/7 Update: Main hotel is full for Sat night, we are working on getting more rooms. Some of the issue is people only booking one night (e.g., Saturday), so there are rooms on Fri night, but not Saturday night. Please book Bretton www.brettonwoods.com using the code and Lodge. I recommend calling the reservation desk ( 1-888-444-6664) as opposed to the website. As of today there is availability in both Bretton and Lodge. If you would like to stay at the main hotel you can always book Fri night at the main (still has availability) and sat night at the Bretton and Lodge. Please let us know if you book outside of the group block. We want to make sure that bimmerfest gets credit for every guest we bring in

  • Bretton Arms Hotel: Double Occupancy (kids free) $229/night. Includes Breakfast

If you book there please let CaptainAudio know so we can track and know when to add rooms to the block. Reserve the rooms fast as there are limited spots at these rates!

We highly recommend you stay here, though you can stay anywhere. As one of our stops this makes it easy for folks to quickly change/wash up before dinner. Friday night we tend to hang out getting some food together, relaxing on the veranda, and drinking scotch in their oppulant lobby! Saturday night, after the long day, we hang out late night drinking and chatting.

What? I can't come in a 2007 Toyota Corolla? My mom said I can use hers!

I think you should swing by Philly, on your way, and pick me up

Dang it, Furby!

I was going to ask you to swing by Logan and pick me up. Not if you are driving a Toyota!

Then again, I'm rethinking asking Furby for a ride. He has advertized his drive style.

Hey Zeichen,

If I fly into EWR will you scoop me up before you head north?

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we'll be able to be there. A competing family event has come up on the same weekend.

I think you posted this message on the wrong forum. What you meant to post on your family forum

"Unfortunately, it doesn't look we'll be able to be there. A competing BMW family event has come up on the same weekend. "

Ha! In the spirit of driving "any BMW model," we just might come with the GT. I remember being asked to bring some picnic gear, we can probably accommodate another 25 festers in the cabin and of course effectively clutter the Mt. Washington road, during the climb.

Let the teasing begin!

Cut and pasted from MWOBS, the official website of the Mount Washington Observatory (pay no attention to the "vehicular accidents" bit, the last person to go over the side was a well lubed Harley rider whose last words were reportedly "Watch this!" :
Surviving Mount Washington

Few people traveling to the summit of Mount Washington expect to face a life threatening situation. Yet not everyone who ventures up this mountain has returned safely, or even alive. The purpose of this section of the Observatory's web site is to consider the reasons for some of the tragedies which have occurred on Mount Washington, in the hope that site visitors will learn from them and will develop a greater understanding of what a trip up Mount Washington might entail. Perhaps, by knowing about the unfortunate experiences of those few whose visits to Mount Washington ended in disaster, future visitors might be better prepared to face the potential hazards of this ever unpredictable mountain.
Among the reasons for fatal accidents on Mount Washington are:
  • HYPOTHERMIA
  • DROWNING
  • FALLING ICE
  • AVALANCHES
  • FALLS
  • NATURAL CAUSES
  • VEHICULAR ACCIDENTS
  • CAUSES UNKNOWN
At 6,288 feet, Mount Washington claims the title of the Northeast's highest peak. While its height may not be especially impressive by global standards, Mount Washington rates as anything but an ordinary mountain. For one, its climate is similar to that of Northern Labrador, hundreds of miles further north. Three major storm tracks converge over the mountain, forming harsh and turbulent weather conditions. Above treeline, alpine conditions prevail and only the hardiest plants and animals survive. The combination of the extreme wind, fog, wet and cold have dubbed Mount Washington "Home of World's Worst Weather".
Many seriously underestimate the conditions atop Mount Washington. Within a day's drive of nearly 70 million people, this mountain is highly accessible and frequently visited. Visitors often arrive unprepared for the stark, blustery weather they encounter above treeline. Here, temperatures typically remain 20 to 30 degrees F colder than in the neighboring valleys, while visibility can be limited to 100 feet and winds fierce. Hikers who anticipate valley-like weather conditions at the summit are unpleasantly surprised when they find themselves severely underdressed and exposed to the elements. Even those visiting the summit in summer via automobile and cog railway may find themselves chilled as they step out into much cooler and potentially winter-like conditions.
The vast majority of the quarter million people who visit the summit each year experience no problems whatsoever. Yet each year several "close calls" accentuate the dangers of the mountain. More than 135 fatalities have occurred on and around Mount Washington since 1849, many of them involving ill-prepared hikers, skiers and climbers. There is no room for poor judgement and carelessness in this unforgiving mountain environment.
To gain an understanding of the harsh conditions atop the mountain, observe the following statistics.
  • The average year-round temperature is below freezing, at 27.2° F.
  • Winds average 35 miles per hour on an annual basis.
  • Fog frequently limits visibility to 100 feet or less.
  • The average annual precipitation is almost 102 inches, including about 26 feet of snow!
  • The world's highest recorded surface wind speed, 231 miles per hour, occurred here.

Furby - For the block booking, I will want Friday and Saturday night at the main hotel. That's a great rate. Late arrival on Friday. I am happy to help with the Flume Gorge trip - people just follow the blue Subaru Forester! We'll call it the "Plunge to the Pool", sorry P2P1 (needs work, makes it sound like a bathroom trip) to make it special!

I will also have an unused BMW OEM sunglasses holder in grey (that doesn't match anthracite headliner) and a much-sought-after "Grumpy Old Men" abstract montage for the auction.

Sweet. I got an e-mail a few minutes ago, from the hotel, saying guests can call in and reserve rooms. So call up and make sure to get a room.

@EVERYONE - If you are running into issues then send me a PM. If the block is sold out then I will work on increasing it.

Sure thing, Kat! You'd have to arrive by about 10:30 though; anything later wipes out the poshing-about time on the hotel veranda.

May I suggest Bradley International (BDL - Hartford, CT) as an alternative? If the fares are not unreasonable it's a much better option. For starters, it's five minutes off my route, whereas EWR while not inconvenient would be a significant detour (minimum half-hour added, plus traffic delays). I think flight times would be more convenient in both directions, too--I pass through the area early afternoon, both ways. We wouldn't reach EWR until early evening on the return leg.

I believe Bradley also gives you a backup plan for ground transport: Team Bemo!

Don't listen to him Kat! Fly into Logan, we'll have supper at the centuries old Union Oyster House- I'll get us JFK's booth, and then you can drive a 335 E92 up Rte93 to the MWH in time for Mint Juleps. First round's on me.

Kat - Our boat has a lot more space! Not to mention DSX is a slow driver! Coming back on Route8 from Day1 of the Fall Foliage Drive, he was barely pushing 55! Hence the offer for you to drive to MWH.

On an unrelated (or is it) note, look at what this past weekend's drive turned up. If you're wondering about the driver, it was a well dressed elderly gentleman and his female companion. You can say that 2 Goats were out and about, enjoying the crisp winter air and secondary roads that CT has to offer, of was it 4 of them?

Thanks for all the offers of rides, but it looks like we are again going to put the rental agencies at Logan to the test and see if they can deliver on their advertized fleet.

Still working out a few of the details, but looking very much forward to seeing you all again.

You know there will be a Honda Fit getting in our way somewhere. I swear, each year there is a Honda Fit getting in my way. Purposefully driving slow.

I just need to get an //M X5 with a plow in the front (mad-max style) and push those Hondas out of our way.

EDIT: BTW we are officially on the headlines for Bimmerfest home page. Go to the other subforums and spread our news!

Crossing fingers. I will reserve my room anyhow, and hope to make it. Wouldn't mind stretching her legs out after a long, cramped, boat ride.

So my last ride was called Bob (against my desires). I need a new name for the 335. I figure she (it will be a she this time) is the offspring of Bob. Suggestions?

Ms. Audio and I reserved a room in the main hotel but I wasn't told the room number.

Edit:
We won't be in the Princess Carolyn Room.

Princess Carolyn Room: This spacious, 1,000-square-feet room was the former room of Princess Carolyn, and features her original four-poster queen bed, private bath, sitting area, gas fireplace, flat-screen TV and desk, plus four large windows offering stunning mountain views.

I am starting to accumulate some nice items for the auction.

I have two copies of Formula One at Watkins Glen by Michael Argetsinger.
Michael is the son of Cameron Argetsinger, the founder of racing at Watkins Glen. All proceeds from the original purchase of the book go to The International Motor Racing Research Center in Watkins Glen and all proceeds from the auction go to Survive the Drive so purchasing one of these books will support two worthy causes.

I zoomed in on a photo of the Hotel Mount Washington I took last year and found that the place indeed is haunted!

I did some research and found that two of the workers who built the hotel were Professor Thaddeus Cook (who was the structural engineer) and Nunzio Machina (an Italian master mechanic). According to the story they were so involved with the place that they refused to leave when they were done with their work and it is believed that their ghosts have been seen peering from the South Tower. It is also rumored that their descendants feel compelled to visit the hotel every year.

I also found out the story about a British Goatherd that haunts the hotel is an urban (or in this case rural) legend.

Put me in as tentative now. The room block at the hotel is now full (we didn't get a return call last week despite several attempts and they just called back to say they were full).
This was the big hook to make the trip for us this year.
If Furby has enough swing to get an extra few rooms at the main hotel, we'd like one as we aren't really interested in staying at the lodge.

On a side note, we should call the hotel and see if they want to let our BMWs be parked in the front. It looks nice having 20-30 BMWs side-by-side all day/night.

Geez DSX,
Nice way to inform me that the flash mob Roundel idea is off. I've turned our living room into an art studio, bought 5 gallons each of "Bavarian Blue" and "Weiß ist White" Tempera Paint and a pallet of poster board and hired the local high school pep squad to do the painting. Now what do I do?

We'll know he's at CtoC V if we spot the world's largest amoeba driving an F30.

I'm about to take my F30 out for its weekly nighttime joyride. Some fantastic highways through mountains here in Northern NJ (who knew?) and with some snow coming tomorrow got to get some 4 cylinder turbo thrills in before the weekend.

I'll be up for the drive this year, definitely, going to take my middle son since my biggest went with me a few years back. He still has close friends in NH, so after the drive we'll be heading a bit south to stay with friends, you'll have to stay at the decrepit Mount Washington Erosion Factory without moi.

Hold that thought. You know that the Harlem Shake allows for a bit of a freeform start don't you? The paint could still come in handy. So could the cheerleaders, but see if you can get the 'Texans cheerleaders instead.

EnigmaMan lives. When he lived in NH, 'cruising' was a trip to McD's for a burger, down the road to WalMart for a new suit, and capped by a pit stop at Dunkin's drive-thru for ego embellishment.
Now the dude lives in New Jersey and he cruises to the "mountains" with nary a mention of his former lifestyle? Something is seriously wrong here. He should fit right in.

It's very well possible that one of these nights, in the up and coming future, I am going to shoo away the woman of the house to dedicate some time to shooting you or with you. I will text you when that time happens. Going prestige is gonna suck as I will not be able to level up my sniper, but it will give a chance to work on the MTAR - which is almost 3rd prestige

I spoke to the management at the Hotel Mount Washington earlier today.
Now that word is out that BJ wont be staying there the demand for rooms has completely overwhelmed them. The were actually considering building an addition to the main hotel to accommodate the unprecedented demand but realized that there was just not enough time to have it completed by June 28th.

Only kidding BJ. Glad to hear you and your son will be attending and I hope you will stick around for the banquet.

According to Bob Green we may have an "official" pace car to lead us up the mountain this year.

There are still rooms available at The Lodge and there are a handful of rooms left in the Hotel at the regular rate but the place is almost sold out for the weekend of the 28th. We are working on making a deal with another inn down the road from the Omni.

If you do book outside the block, please let them know to credit it towards the block and let CA or me know. Part of our negotiating power is numbers. If we have members booking the hotel outside of the block then 1) we don't show accurate numbers on our end, and 2) the hotel shows there are lots of guests and they don't need to give us a discount for future years.

We are hedging our bets with regard to our rental (yeah, yeah - we've even discussed driving the E93), and it looks like our options are:

1) 528i
2) X3
3) Mini Cooper Convertible

With regard to option #3 and C2C5, is it considered "legal and admissible"?

It was the Taurus or the RAM 1500 while the E92 was getting it's 8-week () post-rearending repair!

CA made me aware of a few runs that we should adopt down here for Bimmerfesters, specifically the Storm King Highway and the Seven Lakes Drive up by Bear Mountain.

Instead of climbing up a mountain at 15 MPH, we whooooosh through windy roads around mountains and lakes at 60 MPH. It's very cool. I nominate it as Climb To The Clouds Slightly South for 2014.

I am going to organize a competing event that's closer to home, goes through the Seven Lakes region, goes up/down the magic County Road 106, up to West Point, through Storm King Highway, and ending at a strip club with BMW themed lap dances. Going to be epic.

I may be bringing a different car - my wife's M35x - as Chuck says, there'll be plenty of BMW's on hand, but there's only one Sharon (my wife)

Thanks Chuck

Sharon has some back issues, so a comfy car is a necessity for her, the five hours jaunt from CT to NH, then another five the day of the drive would wipe her out in my car, so if we decide it's doable for her, the Infiniti it is.

We also picked up another couple, my friends Jonathan and his wife Cheryl, who have an X5 turbo.

Then there's Stephanie with her M3 LR edition - could be an interesting group indeed!!

Ah, you understand my quandary. However, if you look closely at the photo below the two leftmost vehicles were participants in the C2C4 event. My 328ix rental was third from the left, I believe ICEBEN's Porsche was parked next to me.

That was ICEBEN next to you and the white 911 on the far left (along with 5 or 6 other Porsches) belongs to Roadmaster. We have always invited the Cayman Club Nor'Easters to attend Climb to the Clouds and they frequently return the courtesy and invite us to attend their events.

I'm the new guy, I say anything made by BMW counts (and Mini's are fun). I was merely answering the question per DSX's FAQ from last year. I feel, however, if this sexy vehicle came up the mountain with us, there might be an issue

Or....one of the worst rental vehicles I have ever driven in my life (I was more upset when I found out the rapping hamsters weren't included):

:

It seems like every year someone in an old out of style jalopy breaks into our line of BMWs.

I got this as a rental car once (not by choice). At least, I thought, the radio would be good. The radio was terrible. For a car that is advertised as having great music, it definitely disappoints. On a side note, I always rent intermediate cars (that's 3rd from a 5th point scale) at Avis. Being an Avis First (high rental member) I typically get upgrades. They gave me this. I looked at the guy and asked him how a $17k car was considered "intermediate" anything.

On occasion we allow a straggler. It's our way of showing that we support the disenfranchised. The only rule is the person has to be willing to stay at the back of the line to not ruin the look and sex-appeal of our ranks. And by back, I mean behind me, which typically means in 3rd place or beyond

If BoltJames shows up this year then the Camry would probably have to stay behind him.

I supposed if we have multiple stragglers who would like to join our ranks then we would have to let these people win the coveted spot. It would be a 3 day contest. It would involve singing, dancing, bare fisted fighting, cooking, and an essay

Clearly you didn't have the hamsters either.....terrible doesn't even begin to describe the radio. You need the "Hamster Audio Upgrade" for anything decent .I felt like I had this as a radio when driving the car:

Not only that, you couldn't even see the radio screen at a certain angle and almost NO radio stations came in!

Funny story - I actually booked the room before you guys got the room block. I've been going back and forth w/ OMW to get it applied, along with CA's help, and it looks like it's all set now.

In other news, I can't wait until the 4 feet of snow in my front yard is gone. We got hit with 32" in the storm at the beginning of Feb, and three weeks later got 22". 2010 was much more snow than this, but for sure it's been a banner year.

I just want to take the M5 out of storage

Good to hear. We want to make sure the group gets the discounts, as well as credit which is important for future negotiations
So jealous you guys get snow. I kept laughing with friends -> Snow in DC, Snow in New England, No snow in Philly - it's like the weather is scared of coming to Philly and is going around us

We don't have a snowblower (I'm young enough to handle the shoveling), but was away this past week for business...my wife was NOT happy with almost 2' of wet, heavy snow falling in the driveway.

She called a plow.

And I'm buying a snowblower.

Doghouse.

Hmmm...you might wanted to buy a heated doghouse first, then the snow plow. I hear it's cold.

When I was a kid my friend and I would go out shoveling. We were SO jealous of the folks who had snow plows. What took us an hour took them 10 minutes.

I've already sourced a "free" snowblower from someone who has a "broken" one. From what I can tell, it needs spark plugs and the fuel system needs a rebuild (plastic bits are a bit degraded). Engine is in good shape though! Should be an easy fix. As long as we don't get an April snowstorm, I'm fine.

Oh, and my "doghouse" is heated with an M5 parked in it :P

Again, you would displace your M5 to keep your body comfortable? By sitting in the seat you are causing extra workload on your M5 during it's off hours. The Union simply does not allow this and as an "official" Union representative you must relenquish. If you don't believe me, just ask other festers

I break standards I've only ever driven two coupes. 83 Olds Tornado (you could raise/lower the shocks by pumping air into it like you do a car tire) and 89 Grand Am. I never liked two doors much.

Buy used. Seriously, screw new cars. The depreciation is absolutely ludicrous; you're better off throwing money out the window whilst driving down the highway.

Which, coincidentally, is exactly what it's like owning an ///M car.

Buying used is exactly what I did. I bought a meticulously maintained 328xi coupe for $25k with CPO and 37k miles....new 328? High $30s to start. My Ford Fusion lease I had before the Bimmer actually depreciated below the buyout price in <2 years....depreciation sucks.

If I saw any advantage to an MT I would get one. I drove MTs for years and shifting became second nature. I think learning how to drive an MT is a good skill to master but at this point my opinion of MTs on my daily driver is "Been there, Done that".

Fair point, I see where you're coming from. I was out of one for 5 years and insisted on getting another not for any advantage other than I missed shifting. The only way I could get my MT addiction was through my motorcycle. I forsee my future as having a summer-type car that has a MT and a daily driver being auto.

Likewise and

It got too annoying especially in traffic to and from Stamford, CT each day. I95 might as well be a parking lot. Then it came time for the 3 series and I promised myself to "upgrade." Thinking back, it was insane to have to press a pedal and shift a lever just to propel an otherwise great car...

Thoughts:

We have enough BMW's in our ranks now that we don't need no Porsche's muddying up the waters anymore. Lets get rid of them.

Anyone who couldn't bring their BMW but at least owns one should be allowed to drive at the very back of the pack for cruises and hitch a ride to the top so as to be seated in a BMW for the ascent.

The Skip Barber orange thing should go last so the rest of us don't have to hear its noisy engine the whole way up.

F30's get special treatment and the right-of-way in all driving/parking situations. Followed by E46's and then E9X's.

Nevermind. As long as I get a special decal recognizing the F30's greatness all will be well.

Historically the M3's of our group did ride in the back. YOu know, the typical loud-mouthed kids at the back of the bus on school trips.

SO what about this scenario. Technically speaking I no longer own a BMW (I don't own a car...first time since 16). I do have a production number for a new car. If it doesn't make it back in time for C2C, would I be allowed up?

Yes, but there are some conditions:
  1. You must fabricate a temporary license tag with your production number. Laser- or inkjet-printed artwork is acceptable but construction paper and crayon is preferred.
  2. Affix it to your non-BMW rental ride (example below).
  3. Have BJ tow you up the auto road while you make "vroom, vroom!" engine noises the whole trip. (Extra points for "pshew!" turbocharger bypass noises.)
For safety, you may want to attach the tow rope to the body, not the handle, so you can retain some steering control. By the time you reach the top your lips will be numb, your backside will be bruised raw and you'll be so tired of staring at the back of an F30 that you'll come to your senses, cancel the order and go rescue Bob.

This is probably one of the best posts I've ever seen...

The orange M3 is the "Lime Rock Edition" M3, not the "Skip Barber Orange" M3. I would have thought that a former lessee of an "M328i x-drive Wal-Mart Special Edition" M-car would have recognized this low production volume model!

I heard he took a photo of the list - so we're screwed until at least 2014, if not later, for it to be posted.

Spring is coming to NH, so he is probably shedding and a little bit irritable!

I'd like to check out the m3, perhaps a "warm" lap or 2 around around BJ's much touted but spectacularly uneventful F30?

Kent’s shop has a staff of 40 trained professionals to handle any form of automotive restoration work, from forming bodywork to tuning your injectors. Kent oversees racecar prep and support, concours transport, participation and can frequently be seed judging at the more prestigious car shows. His facility is packed with Vintage Rolls Royce and Austin, Gullwing Mercedes, Alfa Romeos, even a hot rod 1930’s hearse.

If there are spots available, I would like to join the group for C2C5. I missed the last one due to, well, not owning a BMW (though by reading the C2C4 summary, I could've rented a Ford Focus). My replacement vehicle should be in by late May.

Regarding the quantity, I'll be traveling with the family, so 2 adults and 2 kids. On Saturday, most likely, they will be remaining at the hotel (drive with me or enjoy the pool and grounds).

For example, if i am signed in, and do a search for Cayman Islands, I will see some of my cayman island photos. Not because I am famous, but because they are associated with my account

Dear Mr. Bemo

Please be advised that my client, Donald Samuel Xavier Machina, passed away recently due to extreme mortification. His health had been in a continuing state of decline since he posted late last year that the photographs in question "will be posted this weekend".

Apparently life interfered, and now most unfortunately, his early demise has interfered.

Rest assured though that I have managed to locate the pictures in question. They are beautiful high density, collector quality photographs of many sharp BMWs (and for unknown reasons a ratty looking Ford Taurus) passing through a covered bridge, and ascending a mountain. All are tagged with the owners' names. Most surprisingly there do not seem to be any tagged 'Bemo', should there be?

Watch for them to be mailed soon. Probably this weekend.

E. T. Scheiss, Esq.

PS: The family requests that any remembrance be made in cash. Though it is true you can't take it with you, those left behind would certainly enjoy it.

URGENT - HELP ME DISTRIBUTE MY $15 MILLION TO CHARITY

IN SUMMARY:- I have 15,000,000.00 (fifteen million) U.S. Dollars and I want you to assist me in distributing the money to charity organizations. I agree to reward you with part of the money for your assistance, kindness and participation in this Godly project. This mail might come to you as a surprise and the temptation to ignore it as unserious could come into your mind but please consider it a divine wish and accept it with a deep sense of skepticism.

I am Mr Obah Babbarabamabatundibabba (my friends call me Phyllis) and I am a 55 years old man. I am a South African living in the Garden City of Port Oilslick.
- Nigeria. I was the President/CEO and janitor of TOMOBA OIL LIMITED - an oil servicing comapny in Port Oilslick . I was also married with two children. My wife and two children died in a car accident six years ago. Before this happened my business and concern for making money was all I was living for and I never really cared about other people.

But since the loss of my family, I have found a new desire to exploit the helpless. I have been helping orphans in orphanages/motherless homes and women in houses of ill repute. I have donated some money to orphans in Sudan, Ethiopia, Cameroon,Spain,Austria,Germany, New Jersey and some Asian countries.

Before I became ill, I kept $15 Million in a long-term deposit account in The West Bank of the Hudson River (WBHR). Presently, I am in the hospital where I have been undergoing treatment for hypochondriasis and my doctors have told me that I have only a few minutes to live. It is my last wish to see this money distributed to charity organizations. Because my relatives and friends has plundered so much of my wealth since my illness, I cannot live with the agony of entrusting this huge responsibility to any of them.

Please, I beg you in the name of God to help me collect the $15 Million and the interest accrued on the deposit from WBHR and distributes it amongst charity organizations.

You are at liberty to use your discretion to distribute the money and feel free as well to reimburse yourself when you have the money for any expenses you incur in the course of collecting and distributing the money to charity organizations. I am willing to reward you for your assistance and kindness.

Kindly expedite action and contact me via e-mail: Babbarabamabatundibabba@spam.com if this proposal is acceptable to you.

May the good Lord bless you and your family.

Best Regards,
Mr Obah Babbarabamabatundibabba

But Wait There's More!

If you act immediately I will include a priceless collection of photographs of Mount Washington, New Hampshire.

I think that it can be kept open at this point. There are many C2C veterans on this trip and we can split into travel groups for ease of each group staying together. Then we all rendezvous at each stop. I'm sure you recall being in one of the sporty groups when you made it.
In the past we have had people who needed to cancel during the last week which reduced the number of cars attending. IMHO we can 'reserve' up to 36 cars without concern of it becoming unwieldy. We'd probably have 5 or 6 no shows.

Fine then. I'll be the leader of the Luxury group. I pick first.

With the first pick in the 2013 C2C Driver Draft, the Luxury group selects...

Nordic Kat, E93, Texas

Hello All,
It is with a sad heart that I will not be able to attend this year. The brand spanking new BMW, being custom built just for me (TrueStatus®), will be picked up in Germany, on May 10 with a drop off of May 17. Unfortunately with 10 week delivery (PDC), it will not be possible to get it in time for C2C. I was really looking forward to attending this year, and leading the Performance group on Bear Notch

DSX -> You get to keep your leadership spot this year!

I will still be assisting CA with the charitable portion, and will look forward to attending next year.

If you want be a group leader you are going to have to buy a vowel.
Of course all proceeds from vowel sales will go to Survive the Drive.
Vowels will go to the highest bidder.

Say it ain't so, Furball! There is precedent for rental cars, y'know....

Apply some creativity: Hit eBay, grab a bunch of roundels and M badges and such, slap 'em on a rental Dodge Dart and then auction them off at dinner. Genuine C2C5 commemorative take-off bibs and bobs that actually climbed the mountain on a real ... er, car!

Are you debating the who's vs whose or the "got"?
captainaudio commented:
March 21, 2013, 11:53 pm

I have a solution for the "Whose got the right to go first" dilemma.

The cost for attending c2c5 is $30.00 all of which will go to Survive the Drive. Additional contributions are not required but would be greatly appreciated. To show our thanks to those that are the most generous they will be allowed to be at the head of the line of cars, get waited on first at dinner, use the rest rooms, etc.
Additionally we have spoken to the Mount Washington Auto Road and they have agreed to arrange for good weather for the top 10 contributors. The rest will probably be driving in a sleet storm similar to the one at C2C3.

I understand that this gives an unfair advantage to our wealthiest members who will undoubtedly put the rest of us to shame but if you find yourself at the end of the line keep in mind that you are being humiliated for a good cause.

We will be including these in the Swag Bags for those that are relegated to the end of the line.

P.S. The rest room privileges are a hell of an incentive, we do a lot of driving and it is a long time to hold it in.

The former--in the interest of camaraderie I was willing to overlook substandard/casual usage. The stewards may choose otherwise.

(A long-time colleague of mine has begun to suffer from bouts of project-management and consulting jargon. We don't know how to treat it because he cannot avoid continuous exposure. The poor guy used "ask" as a noun at least twice this week alone--even after I ribbed him about the first infraction! I fear this may be incurable.)

Exemplary, CA!

Kat, I will venture to guess you failed because the linguistic center of your brain, like mine, considers this particular misapplication anathema. Somehow, substitution of "ask" for request, question, inquiry and the like is creeping into the business lexicon. I can't even construct a decent example because it is so unnatural! (Best I can do is a fragment, heard last week: "anticipate the ask." Yes, it hurt to repeat that!)

It drives me even further up a wall than similar faux pas seen here ("install" for installation, etc.), probably because at least here, it's casual not professional. It would be a fatal career decision for me to attempt to enlighten the most grievous offenders!

While all this "group leader" stuff makes for interesting reading for those out of towner BMW pilots, we native Kanc pilots simply laugh at this "who's on first" role playing fantasy.

I plan to wipe the bum of any wannabe 3 series pilot through any of the chosen routes we have available to us. That's including the Bear Notch skills test..

I've seen the competition and it doesn't impress me. Either bring your racing shoes or bring your wine tasting talents.

I've laid down the gauntlet. I now say....bring it.

Easy to lay down the gauntlet, when the reigning champ will be waiting for his brand new EBII 335xdrive sedan msport. This year you get off easy.

Curious to know, will the factory be creating an emblem with that information? If so, you may need a wider rear deck to accommodate it.

Furby - strap a pair on and mount up! (Just be careful sitting down). I ain't going because I don't have a BMW BS. Bloody princess!
One of the advantages of having no credibility is being able to turn up in a Taurus and no one batting an eye lid - ask Zooks.

Drop off date at Frankfurt port is May 17. I would need the car to arrive 1.5 weeks before Bimmerfest. Then that weekend would be a trip to the Performance center. Then, and only then I could make it.

So 4 weeks to deliver a car from Munich won't happen

Driving a Ford Taurus from Philadelphia to Mount Washington and back? There would have to be a ridiculous prize at the end of that road-trip. I imagine driving that long in a Ford would increase the trip time from 7.5 hours to 10 hours. Maybe longer depending on the sleep that would be required.

Trust me, I thought about it and once I realized that it won't be possible to make C2C I felt a little bit of guilt - but there is nothing much that can be done. Selling Bob wasn't planned/expected, and Jen is on call for all of April so we couldn't do that. Add to that 10 weeks for PCD drop-off

It would have been great to get the car a week or two before the event. Drive my brand spanking new car in front of all your used vehicles

No can do, we need a target all the way at the back to see where our caravan ends.
EBII F-30 was a perfect candidate, and now we have to settle for just a mineral gray F-30 from the "luxury" division.

Two biographies of Sir Stirling Moss (both signed by Stirling Moss)

A Lime Rock Historic Festival 30 Poster that is signed

before he passed away in early October.
It is also signed by Simon Kirkby who won two races (he took the pole and led every lap) in the #25 BMW 3.0 CSL.

I also have two Turner Motorsports posters signed by Will Turner and Paul Dalla Lana

And I will be auctioning off 2 tickets as my guest at the American LeMans Race at Lime Rock Park.
This will include admission to the race, VIP parking pass and hospitaility (including breakfast and lunch) in the (air conditioned) Lime Rock Drivers Club Club House.

So true! I actually had a Furby as a kid, and it would sit on top of my bookcase in my bedroom. The darn thing would never really work when I wanted it to, but then for some reason, it would become possessed in the middle of the night and start talking at ungodly hours. Then on occasion I'd wake up because - you know that creepy feeling you get when you know someone is watching you - well I'd have that creepy feeling, and then I'd hear the mechanical eyes of the Furby shift back and forth in the dead silence of the night.... I knew the damn thing was watching me! Scared the crap out of me.

LOL.

You don't need a headset to join us. Just PM us your game name. Hell, Bemo can't even figure out how to use his headset and he does well. If you have a spare bluetooth earpiece you can use that too

Good Sir, I'm sorry but you cannot join Operation Mt. Washington Furby Capture and Delivery as that would defeat the purpose of the operation planning. I'll search for a BT ear piece....maybe I'll try to acquire a Secret Service version headset and talk into my sleeve. It would give me practice for our stealth operation in June

The plan is to leave a Tasty Cake bar on his doorstep, taze him (Don't taze me, bro!), bag him and drop him off at the Tilton Diner. Even knowing the plan, he will not be able to resist the Tasty Cake. That's the beauty of the plan.

I'll provide the 550 cord and any applicable sedatives. I'm well versed in the arts of tactical operations, and will stop at nothing to achieve mission accomplishment. With permission from our stealth ops commander, I'd like to begin drafting the five paragraph order for Operation Mt. Washington Furby Capture and Delivery.

Meh, that cotton version might be nice for wash the car attire. Cashmere gets awfully hot during mid May to mid October, especially for exercise wear.

Actually, with the four of us running around together (or camping together) we would be tough to beat. I've been in rooms, with random people, and it was crazy hard to beat us. We had all kinds of cool streaks (machine gun, disruption beam) then add to that claymore, bouncing betty, etc. The other team would constantly try and beat us and would fail. Add to that if your team members have insertion point.... It was carnage

Blech on the 5 Series (at least the current variant), in comparison to the 3 . Late last week our BOS rental opened up a 3er for more $$ than the 5er we had rented for the event. We JUMPED on the 3er!

This is a fine can of worms...advice needed! As you all know we always award a free M6 to the person travelling the longest distance to attend the event. Right now we have one 'Fester from Houston and one from Wichita who will be joining us. According to preliminary calculations, Houston is 66 more miles distant than Wichita, but that's by road. If you fly the great circle route the opposite may be true. What to do? Do we cut the M6 in half this year?

DSX,

As we have driven Houston to KC, and I know it to be more than 66 miles, I am not quite sure how you managed that calculation. However, based on the wisdom of Solomon, I would much rather you award the M6 to someone else than render it completely useless. I am quite content with my lowly 328i E93.

My layover from KS will be through Chicago O'Hare, and I will be flying into EWR as final destination before the 6-hour drive up to NH... which in my opinion is quite the round-about way of traveling to this event. How does that affect the verdict?

Here's my decision. Each of the two long distance attendees will be awarded an M1 (puhleeze, don't call them 1M's). I will award myself a future M4 as compensation for having my head explode.

There still should be some rooms left at The Lodge at the Omni Resort.
You can call the Hotel at 603.278.1000 and tell them you are with the Bimmerfest group.

I just checked with the Omni and there are two rooms available in the Bretton Arms and 3 Rooms available at The Lodge.
Our block is filling up fast so if you are interested you should book ASAP.

Leave friday after classes.

Solved. You have problems, I have solutions.

Now when you say graduate in 2 semesters, you mean graduate school through some accelerated program?
I think if you were attending, this would carry some weight.

We need a vote. How many people here think that ///M-Rated should come pick me up? I'll donate $200 (on top of the standard fee, and any auctions) if ///M-Rated comes pick me up in his white //M.

There are only a few rooms left at the Omni Mount Washngton Resort but we have secured an additional block of rooms at Carlson's Lodge which is five minutes down the road. When you call to book be sure to mention Bimmerfest Climb to the Clouds.

http://www.carlsonslodge.com

800-358-5502

Several have already book rooms at Carlson's.

Details about carlsons we be added to the web site later today.

Shhhh. Don't ruin it. I want //M to come all the way from New ENgland to pick me up

I don't think it is feasible for me to come. With the Roommate (TM) not able to attend, and the cost of getting a room solo, plus the ED trip, wedding, and honeymoon it would be irresponsible to spend a ton of money solo. On the other hand, I plan to dial in to the auction so i can bid on items

This is the latest list.

This list will be regularly updated on the signup/contact page of the Climb to The Clouds Five web site at:
http://www.climbtotheclouds.org

I need info from the attendees. You can send me a PM or send an email to info@climbtotheclouds.org

1. Your Bimmerfest Screen Name
2. How many are in your party?
3. What are their names? (I need this so I can make up name tags - I only need first names.)
4.Which day are you attending?
5. Where are you staying?
6. What is your email address? (So we can establish a mailing list. We can only send a PM to 5 people at a time and this gets cumbersome with 30+ people committed so far.)

Thanks,

Napoleon is one of the five monkeys left standing at the inaugural C2C...I guess it is C2C1 now. DSX, Napoleon, ProfessorCook, nhman and myself. Captainaudio was there in spirit if not in body. We all discovered that we had no friends and no where to go on a Saturday...so we sat down and had dinner. It quickly became apparent why DSX had no friends - who causes a ruckus over a hamburger in a place like that???? We figured we needed DSX to organize future trips, so we let him stay.

US, we've gotten that 'next year for sure!' line for a few years. It's next year now. Unless your Japan trip involves a visit with the Emperor, or a gaggle of geishas, there just can't be any excuse.
However, if you can't make it, can you send someone with the Z8?

BTW, that arrow and the "9 MLS" makes me think your HUD was measuring his tread depth. How cool would that be.

The bad news is that you will have to pay twice.
The good news is that you get two name tags.

I'll post an updated list later tonight.

On another note today was a track day for the Lime Rock Drivers Club. I took a bunch of Climb to the Clouds Brochures (that right we have brochures) and passed them around. Two of the members are planning on coming. One will bring Lime Rock Edition M3 another couple will bring their 25 year old BMW. I told them that we did not usually allow old, out, out of style low status BMWs to attend but in their case we would make an exception.

I received good news from my CA that my car has been built and is being transports to the shipping port. The factory went the extra mile and took a picture to help ease the pain of the (still) 4-5 week wait until delivery. As you can see, I went with the performance package. I am really looking forward to taking this on the "Notch" and MWAR.

For some reason, the car will be held-up at the VPC to have some "luxury" emblems installed.

Why? All three words have completely different meaning:
Unique -> One of a kind (one of the most widely abused words)
Rare -> Limited group, but not unique (though sometimes people apply it to a unique item)
Special -> Varied meanings that isn't necessarily positive. You know, when your mother says "The kids may call you weird, but really you are special, now run along don't miss the short bus sweetie"

Hopefully you will have the anti-sway bars installed before C2C5

Not only will BJ be going first we are giving him a 45 minute head start.

Since the event is going to be a fund raiser for SurviveTheDrive.org I think Discovery Channel campaign to promote safe teen driving is relevant here (even though it is sponsored by the rebugged Lexus makers)

DSX would argue that it's ///M-rated we should worry about.

He has very courteously cautioned me about him, and I do not take such cautions lightly.

Everyone knows about ///M. Everyone is properly wary. With DSX, though, it's another thing altogether. He seems like such a nice guy when you meet him...
(That he was acquitted does not matter... That whole Bavarian beer/cow/undergarment thing was never resolved.)

The Official Climb to the Clouds Mount Washington Volunteer Snow Removal Crew was in action yesterday to make sure the road was clear in time for our event.

Professor Cook was off to a good start until he started making snow angels.

DSX had a few fireworks left from last Fourth of July and began blasting the snow out of the way.

I was busy at work but was able to send one of my interns to help out.

BJ showed up with a "StatusPlow".

He didn't actually plow any snow, he just sat in the parking lot and made the regular Mount Washington Auto Road crew so jealous they parked their plows and went home.

The crew will be back in action this weekend. Additional volunteers would be greatly appreciated.

The "Official Climb to the Clouds Volunteer Snow Removal Crew" was back at work yesterday.

Not much snow was removed but under the direction of ///M-Rated they built a real cool snow castle.

Eventually Professor Cook got tired of making snow angels and took over direction of the project,

Once we applied the proper principles of physics and engineering (and napalm) to the project it was amazing how effective we were at clearing snow (and vegetation) off of the mountain.

At the request of New Hampshire authorities we will be back again tomorrow to plant trees and stuff.

Also, word has reached me that thanks to the Professor's one-size-melts-all clearing method, we will not be getting stuck behind MWAR tour coaches this year.
