iPhone 5 Snap-In Adapter Delayed Until the 3rd Quarter in 2013

BMW iPhone 5 Snap-In Adapter

Despite being out for over 6 months BMW owners still do not have the ability to snap their iPhone into their cars. The BMW Snap-In adapter not only charges the phone but allows access to your MP3s and connects your phone to the roof mounted antenna for improved reception.

The extreme differences between the 30 pin connector for the previous generation iPhones and the new 8 pin Lightning adapter on the 5 are giving BMW some trouble. The iPhone 5 snap in adapter was expected in June and has now been pushed back to September at the soonest. In the mean time you can use your factory Apple cable or Bluetooth to connect your Apple iPhone to your BMW.

Just in time for the iPhone 6. Or 5s. Hopefully it'll be the same or very similar dimensions and therefore compatible.

Since these are already available in Europe...what problems are they having? Are they going to change it from the Euro-spec unit? Interesting...

Factory cable is for music while the phone function uses Bluetooth. You don't get the benefit of the shark fin antenna and apparently total functionality.

That's incorrect regarding the snap-in adapter allowing the shark-fin antenna to improve reception. You can search for other posts that will explain that the iphone 5 lightning port does not connect to the iphone's antenna systems and thus, cannot provide better reception.

The snap-in adapters I've dealt with (Motorola V3 and iPhone's) have proximity antenna's in them. None of them had an actual antenna connection. I live in a very fringe area and only get one bar with my iPhone 4 laying on top of my armrest but get two with it docked.
