F80 M3 vs. M4 Spy Photo Comparison

This time we are going spy shots to spy shots, equal amounts of camo on each car and the M3 and M4 are both in non-flashy color schemes.

The fronts of the M3 and M4 look really close in these pics, with the exception of what looks to be a marker light on the M4's front bumper. Lower bumpers look similar, the M4 side pods in the lower bumper look to be sightly larger and drop a bit lower. A good view of the flared front and rear fenders. I bet there will be special M gills behind the front wheel of the M3, like the ones seen on the M4 concept.

From the side you notice the difference in roof lines. The M3 having a slightly taller line with a steeper angle into the trunk lid, which has what looks to be integrated spoiler. For the M4 a lower profile and a smooth slope to the trunk lid. At the rear you can see how the M3's flared rear fender smooths into the tail light. The M4's flared rear fender stops at an indent to the tail light, giving a wider look in the rear. The door sills are different, more round and larger on the M3 and sharper angle on the M4.

You can almost see the gills from this angle. The upper door line flows right into them. This is also a great angle to enjoy those flared fenders. Again, the rear of the M4 has a wider look and you can see the stretched tail lights add to that. On the M3, it's hard to tell if it has a small spoiler or if the trunk maybe has a lip to it. To the tough part, the rear bumper and diffuser area. Of course both have the quad exhaust pipes, but what will the area look like around them? We saw what the M4 Concept looked like. Will they follow? What are your thoughts?

They look almost identical to me. Makes me wonder why do they even bother with M4GC.

Picture about an extra $5000 over the M3 and then you will get the M4GC... it makes $ense to me.

I've read elsewhere (BMW Blog) that it is CF, with a "double hump" like the M6.

I know I'm in the minority but I prefer 4-door sedans, and not just for convenience. The F80 is very attractive. I'm definitely targeting it as my next car.

I am standing in line for the M3. Hard to see from the above pics but I suspect that the flared wheel fenders will be more pronounced on the M3 given the M3 is narrower and both share the same mechanicals. IMO the M3 projects a more purposeful traditional BMW aggressive look as opposed to the sleeker M4. Of course all this is speculation until we see them side by side.

The M3 rear wheel flares look more defined whereas the M4's look balooned. It could just look that way on a white car, but if that's reality, then my vote goes for the F30 M3 sedan just like for the E90 M3 sedan.
