Last week BMW released the M4 Concept Coupe at Pebble Beach. Just like the BMW E92 M3 Concept shown off 7 years ago, the M4 Concept is 95% of the production car. Our quick on the shutter spy photographers snagged these pictures of lightly disguised M4 running around Germany. This is a near production ready car as you can see from the pictures, all but the final details are complete. Does this mean BMW is moving up the M4 launch from mid-2015 to perhaps mid-2014?
As you can see most of the M4 Concept details have translated over to the production M4. The front bumper is identical but the concept car but loses the carbon fiber splitter. I wouldn't be surprised if a splitter was offered from the M Performance Parts catalog, but be warned it does make the front bumper low! The double bridge M mirrors are also a visual match on the production car but they will have an integrated side blinkers per European safety laws. The front fender air breather is also retained, venting air from the wheel well to make the M4 aerodynamically more slippery.
From the hood back we see the traditional power dome that lines up nicely with the recess valley in the carbon fiber roof. The recess continues down to the CSL inspired trunk lid, but it is covered up with some camo here. Below the trunk lid the beautiful carbon fiber diffuser from the concept is gone, with the exhaust tips now in plain metal without the carbon fiber shrouds seen on the concept. While these changes at the back where expected it was one of my more favorite parts of the M4 Concept that I'm sad to see gone.
Despite loosing a few carbon fiber bits here and there the M4 production car will be an almost visual match to the M4 Concept. If you loved the concept you're in luck, if you hated it you're out of luck. What do you think of the M4 overall? Look at both the production and concept pictures and post your thoughts.
