Great color combo and I really like the wheels and brake calipers. Do the blue brake calipers come standard or are they an option from factory or installed at the port?

Unfinished brake calipers were always a pet peeve of mine. it's about time they started offering them.

So much for the belief that customers would not get 428's until after the official introduction date (or whatever it is called) which I understand to be Oct. 6.

They are unavailable on every 428i except the Msport. 650 option on the 428i Msport. 650 option on any line 435i and come standard on the 435i Msport

The M Sport brakes are not standard on the 435i M Sport. They're $650.

Ah thanks for the correction. It is the best value on the 428i though. Go from those time brakes to the huge ones and they feel great!

Nice car! Would like one with a manual transmission that would match the aggressive styling, but the 8 speed auto being no-cost and standard makes it a toss up.

Just came home. Set it to Sport+ and put it in manual mode. Took it on to a lonely highway close to me with some really nice on and off ramp turns. This thing is an animal in the twisties! Stays way flatter in the corners then any f30 i have driven. Not even a hint of tire squeal at 70-80 MPH in the turns. GREAT STUFF! I really think the F30 rolls so much to make you want to buy this lol

Congrats, great package, cheers and enjoy!

Like the blue calipers, would have preferred 6MT (it's ok since your other car is MT), I wish BMW encased the windows (no casing would save weight), I hope this is listed as a 4 seater due to the back seat's center plastic tray, do you have the staggered front/rear tire set up?

About an hour ago, I had the opportunity to drive a fully loaded 428i M sport. I have a 2003 e46 w/ sport package and am looking for replacement candidates. My impressions from the quick test drive which includes a brief stint on the highway and local streets are as follows.

Relative to the F30 3 series w/ sport package, the 428i:

1. Feels bigger almost like a down scaled 6 series.
2. Is more firmly sprung w/ more feedback making it way through the chassis.
3. Steering provides a little more feedback but still does not feel as natural as the E46 but an improvement I could live with.
4. Feels faster. I am not sure if in part it was because I was hearing more of the engine (sounds more muted in the 3) during acceleration or a steeper throttle reponse.
5. Handling definitely felt crisper with less tendency to roll.

All in all, the 4 series lives up to the promise of being a sportier version of the 3 series with enough differentiation to merit being a new series. What struct me most during the drive was how quick it felt. It has all the power I would ever need. I also prefer the feel of the 328i over the 335i for two reasons (I am sure its the same for the 4 series) - 1. it feels more balanced and nimble, i.e., not as nose heavy and 2. It easier to exploit the power. I do however love the sound of the inline six but I guess you can't have it all.

Congrats! Beautiful car! I am waiting impatiently for the F33. I am getting the red interior for sure, still debating about the exterior color.

You are lucky to be one of the first ones, enjoy it!

A few questions:

1) Is there an option for all season tires for the M Sport? (I live in Seattle and all season are good enough here)
2) I see that there are no fog lights in the M Sport bumper, there is no option for this? I looks great without the fog lights but I am just wondering if there is an option
3) Off topic: Why do we have the F30 forum combined with the F32,F33? I think there should be a 4 series forum only, F30 is quite a different car. Or maybe I am missing something?

Thanks!

If you go to BMWUSA.com and build a 428i or 435i Coupe, you'll see that the default wheels are the 18" 441 M wheels w/ "Mixed Performance Tires". These are the staggered ones.

You can also get the all seasons (default on the x-drive models) which are not staggered ('square').

Ok this thread (and other information) inspired me to buy one for my wife this weekend. "ordered" a 428xi M Sport in Mineral Grey with the black interior. Premium Pkg, tech pkg, driver assist Plus and cold weather Pkg. Passed on the LED lights could not justify the extra $1900. She wanted the AWD so no DHP. I did not have the opportunity to push the handling but initial impression was plenty of power and a nice ride. Build started yesterday so should be able to pick her car up before turkey day

I got the free xenons. The LED lights are not worth the 1900 bucks if you ask me...if they were 900 bucks then maybe. Xenons are awesome and look fantastic at night. i really like that LED eyebrow they put on these cards now!

BMWUSA.COM Check the site and build a 4 series. Choose the non mixed tires option.

no fog lights cause of air flow issues

Yep. I think the US cars (at least mine is according to the VIN decoder) are spec'd as "HOT CLIMATE" cars. I've heard that these cars need additional air flow and cooling so they omitted the fog lights for the US cars.

Agreed. I sometimes turn my fogs on and they'll light up the 10ft in front of the car but don't overall seem that useful, but I think as far as 'usefulness value' goes, the rear fogs that I enabled are more useful for the few times I use them - either really dense fog so cars behind me can see me or if there is someone tailgaiting me.

GOod question. Maybe some tutorials will pop up. I was admittedly nervous taking the panels on my dash off, but it wasn't too bad in the end. It took awhile to figure out just the right amount of length to make the button work. I think I superglued a dime and nickel together on top of a dremmeled down Bic pen cap. Those are all OEM parts right?

M wife saw an alpine white BMW at the dealer yesterday, she was dropping a co worker off there and it was so stunning that she got out of her car to see what model it was. It was a holy ***** moment when she realized it was the 4 series. It terms of styling I think the 4 series is going to shock people. I do think the white coupe is one of the better color options and it won't be nearly as common.

Replacing my C6 Vette with a C7 stingray unfortunately my car is not slated to come off the line until February Maybe "I" should break in her BMW for the first 5000 miles....isn't there something in the manual about a complicated break in. Yeah, everything I've read about having a staggered setup on all wheel drive is bad.

I wonder if the M sport breaks ONLY work on staggered setup or that is just a factory standard.

I would rather have non staggered with all wheel drive and the M brakes. hmmm

Staggered is fine with xdrive. I drove around like that for years with my E92. The danger comes when you have tires at different diameters...
Heybuzzz commented:

That's good to know... Looking at some of the other forums other models with M Sport X Drive come with staggered wheels so I guess the factory will figure it out...

Actually... I can build my model online, but when I add the M Brakes it just says I can only get Performance tires installed. I have not seen any 428/435's xDrive online with M Brakes so at least I'll be different. : )

the 428xi that I drove before ordering was a M sport with M brakes. Had performance tires but were not staggered. I think he told me it could not ordered staggered and it might not be a good idea on an AWD anyhow.

A note on the M brakes - Just in the short drive around town 10-15min there was fair amount of brake dust on the wheels. Might be something to factor into your decision if that bugs you. Stock brakes will have much less for sure..

Nice, health and happiness. Not sure it's for me, will wait to see it in the flesh, but not too sure I like the general direction BMW is taking (maybe it's just me), starting to loose it brand uniqueness I feel, starying to look just like any other car. Seeing a lot more Audis on the road of late and I think this is one of the reasons why.

Altho I'm sure she goes like sh*t if a shovel, enjoy, drive safe.

The Audis are o.k. but its not a bimmer. I test drove an a5 coupe and bought the 335i coupe w/msport. No comparison. Audis have these funny circles and LEDS that look a child's bicycle lights, those circles are darn ugly, its a hokey looking car that doesn't come close to the elegance and flair that BMW churns out. Audi offers just one Coupe, while BMW offers many. Audis direction is sideways, same crap year after year w/ the circles and cheap looking LEDS. I love BMWS direction. Hence, I bought one.
Sorry to go off topic but I couldn't let that comment go unanswered.

For me it came down to the Audi S5 or the BMW 435i. I like Audi's AWD, but the BMW beat it on looks. Not only is the Audi looking dated, but the 435i's roof line looks so much better. As far as performance goes, I think either would have worked for me.

The Audi is definitely starting to look pretty dated. We were all set to get an A5, but I'm glad we went to test drive the BMW. I think I would have been upset had we got an A5 and started seeing the F32's around town.

No, I'd never buy an Audi, I simply will never buy a car with LEDs on the front, ever. Looks like a partically decorated Christmas tree! But with that a side, i feel their overal package looks stronger (and it just kills me to say it), lets be honest, how a car drives is one thing but if it doesn't get u 'aroused' whats the point. I'm quire fearful when I test drive the 4 I'll come away shaking my head, from what I've seen it looks more like a baby 6 than a new 3 (or 4). One thing I simply do not like is what they've done with the nose and with the lights, the way they're kinda squadhed, it's almost like they didn't know what else to do, was shocked in fact when I saw the saloon, I thought 'are these people trying NOT to sell cars!'

I think, right now, the best looking car on the road is the Vauxhall Insigina. I'm from the UK so not sure what it's called outside of the UK, but BMW could learn a thing or two.

And don't even get me started on the new 1 series. ..if this is how it's gona look, don't even bother with the 2 series.

Just being honest here and giving a balanced opinion, and hope, just hope this might get back to BMW, time to raise your game lads. I read somewhere recently, written by some car journalist, that said BMW are on the verge of loosing the crown to Audi, or whoever, I'm starting to think that guy might have a point.

Oh yea, one last point, in be new 4 can't open the rear windows, I fact this hasn't been possible since the E46 coupe, now BMW will tell u this is to save weight and to give better fuel efficiency and aero-dynamicness etc, but the rear reason was to save money on production costs, and yet the price has gone up, by quite a bit, I mean his car starts at 30K in the UK, back in 2007/2008 that would have bought one a Z4 coupe.

Apologies, rant over!

..just one last point, maybe off topic, or perhaps not, but within a 40 mile radius of where I live 2 BMW dealerships have closed, now there may be various reasons for this, but perhaps one is that folk are already starting to vote with their feet. Now I have travel 60 to 70 odd miles to get my coupe serviced by BMW, nice!

Thanks... That's what I was told. Said my X Drive would not be staggered. That's fine with me.

They did say it came with performance tires which they would swap out for free.

yeah. I guess you don't like BMW?. Where I live there are a lot more than 2 and none have closed. In fact w/ the US auto downsizing they sell more cars. People prefer to buy a used BMW over a new high end vehicle. I never met a BMW I didn't like.

Nice...Congrats. The first picture I saw and I knew you bought the car from HASSEL. I got mine from there too. An F30. Saw a 428i the day I came to pick up my F30 and was regretting my decision after looking at one of those. I guess there's always a next time.

Your engine bay seems more populated than my F30 lol. ENJOY the car !!

I feel like the new look with the headlights meeting the kidneys look gorgeous on the 3 and 4 series as the headlights are slimmer. This approach doesnt work for X5 which looks quite weird with those huge headlights meeting at the kidney.

The headlights and the kidney grilles look good, its the shape of the hood that bothers me, especially looking from the side. Its a bit hunchbacked or bent over, almost like an afterthought or design requirement, which it is, for pedestrian crash standards. The 4 has it better integrated. The 3 is a blend of the new hood with the old e90 attached behind it.

I'm currently torn between the two. I really don't like the way the nav screen just sticks up in the BMW. Why couldn't they incorporate it into the dash? I drove an A5 with the S-line, package, it changes the way car looks and drives. I also feel like the A5 is more nimble and responsive. In my opinion, Audi interiors still beat even the newest Bimmers. I do like the exterior of the 4 better and the tuned exhaust sound of the potent 2.0, plus the tech is a generation better. Hmmmm

I agree the Audi interior is probably best in the class. And I wasn't crazy about the dash navi screen. It looks like it should be retractable but isn't. I didn't test the S-line Audi but I didn't test the 435i either. I liked the 428i immediately. I felt like I was trying to convince myself to like the Audi. However, a clean A5 always catches my attention.

I agree. The first thing any1 says to me when they sit in my car is why is the nav screen sticking out and does it go down ?

I'm not sure why other people have an issue with that but I like it. I had no issues with the glare on the screen or anything and I quite like the way the whole dashboard design flows. Something that i have started to notice after my first 1000 miles is some cracking noises by the dashboard area when i go over a bump or something. But you're def right. Audis interior does look much better. And also Audi's or VW have been making turbos since the early 2000s.

That's funny, I'm trying to convince myself to like the BMW. The 428xi I drove didn't wow me, I've been trying to find a 428eye, to see if it's a better drive.

I've always gone back and forth between the two. Had 4 BMW's and 3 Audi's so far

The Nav screen also seems so far away to me, at least in comparison to my s4. How is the rear view camera? The camera in my Audi is brilliantly clear, even at night. The 428xi I test drove the camera looked fuzzy at night. I like the markings that show you where the car is going but the green hatch marks seem distracting and view blocking. I know you can turn them off but that turns off all the markings.
