BMW will be bringing back BMW Films!

If you were a fan of the BMW Films series "The Hire:" from back in 2001-2002, you will be excited to hear that BMW of North America is planning on bringing them back.

Here's a little refresher: "The Hire: " series consisted of 8 short online films. The 8-10 minute BMW Films were action packed, featuring actor Clive Owen who played a driver-for-hire, his car of choice, of course, always being a BMW. To get the most out of short films, BMW hired some big name directors such as Guy Ritchie, John Frankenheimer, and Ang Lee. Aside from the BMW featured in the films, Owen's co-stars also included some top names like Gary Oldman, Don Cheadle, Forest Whitaker and even Madonna. BMW definitely spared no expense here. These short films even inspired the Hollywood movie 'The Transporter' starring Jason Statham.

Check out The Hire: Beat the Devil, this one co-starred James Brown and Gary Oldman

In the end, the films were just BMW advertisements, showing what the cars could do. However, the short films were way more exciting to watch than run of the mill commercials. The series worked well for BMW, drawing in millions of views and increasing sales numbers by up to 12% in the first year. With BMW falling behind Mercedes-Benz in the luxury car sales race this year, I wonder if they are looking back to utilizing the draw of the films, to possibly help give their sales a little bump. BMW has some incredible vehicles to use at this point. The i8, M4, M3 and the new X5 would all make excellent co-stars.( Or should I say stars?) I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with. What do you think about BMW bringing back BMW Films?

I look forward to seeing what they come up with. I have my DVD, and loved "The Follow" as it stars my black 330Ci. I now also have a Z3, but not silver.

I still have the DVD BMW sent from when they were new. My favorites were always Ambush and Star. The Follow (starring the E46) is also good. I also have all 4 Dark Horse comics they released based on the Hire. I hope they bring back Clive Owen, or at least get someone similar. Jason Statham or Dominic Cooper might be good.

Here's all of season 1:

Very cool. I have these burned to my external HD as both QuickTime & MPEG from when they first came out. Also saw them when SpeedTV played in a one off series.

I have 2 favorites for different reasons: "Star", because it was just plain funny as all get out. And "Beat the Devil" because it probably had the best story line w/ great acting from Gary Oldman.
