Well that didn't take long. First F80 M3s crashed

by Bernie McGroarty on June 18, 2014, 4:14 pm
Some pictures from an unknown twitter feed have surfaced of the first F80 M3s to be crashed. The combination of lighter weight and more power can really make for an intense driving experience, but once in a while things go wrong. The Yas Marina Blue M3, doesn't look as bad maybe $10k in parts, labor and paint, just to throw a number at it. On the other hand, the Mineral White M3 looks to have taken much harder hits. The rear is shifted quite a bit and I'd bet it could be a total loss. Have a look.

Read all about the M3 as well as the M4 here!

How well do the M3 and M4 handle street and track driving? Find out here!

The first Yas Marina Blue M4 gets delivered!

These were press cars...not individual owners, btw.

Leave it to a journalist to wreck a perfectly good car!

Wow!
Looks pretty bad, like nothing salvageable.

I wouldn't mind names so I can put their reviews in proper context

We know. BMW stashed these cars away after the crashes so these sorts of pictures wouldn't get out. I could have gone and hunted the cars down but BMW would not have appreciate it.

I was on track when the YMB M3 went off at the kink. I know who it was but won't be saying out of professional courtesy. I think he turned in too early, went across to the grass, then shot into the wall on the opposite side of the track. That wall is covered in paint and marks from many many people making the same mistake.

Not sure on the mineral white M3, that was in a different group. I'm trying to figure out where that sort of damage could have happened. Maybe they dropped two wheels in the grass (or the curbing, which was slippery) on braking and then went straight off backwards?

New models inspire over confidence, perhaps?

Totally. The car is so stable and has a lot of computer power and driving tech backing you up. For example the computer is constantly adjusting the rear diff locking to give you the best handling. The problem is, as you know, all the computer power in the world can't change the laws of physics. I am guessing in both instances they dropped wheels into the grass and at that point there ins't much you can do but hold on.

The crash will prove real world driving crash data for BMW, that would be my spin on it whilst explaining how it happened to the boss.
