2014 BMW i8s arrive at dealers

The 2014 BMW i8

The launch of the revolutionary BMW i8 is upon us. A combination of sustainability, innovation and stunning design has built remarkable excitement for a product Motor Trend has simply called "A Masterpiece", the Wall Street Journal deemed it "the Sustainable Supercar" and Car and Driver said it is "Driving the Future". We bring you the 2014 BMW i8 pricing and ordering guides to peruse while waiting for your i8 delivery.

In the US customers have two ordering choices. The choices include Pure Impulse World, a launch unique option (more info below), or Tera World. Beyond those two package choices the only modifiable options will include exterior color and wheel design (see choices below). 90% of the US cars have been pre-spec'ed as Pure Impulse World so chances are that is what you are getting.

Who is craving an i8 and who has one on order?

the only thing I see missing from here is lane change warning (Driver Assistance Plus)... I think that's really important nowadays in a car in this price class.

Cup-holder

Sorry, folks, one more question. I really am considering ordering one...but now I'm hearing there is no cup-holder in the front? You've got to be kidding? I know it sounds silly, but I need to use this as my car...not as a show-piece? I hope someone from BMW can read this and address the issue of lane change warning and this cup-holder thing.....Presumably, if you're buying a car with ultra strong gas mileage, you intend to drive it....

Seriously, a car from BMW costing close to $130k and don't have a cup holder is not remotely possible. Now from looking at the picture, I see only 1 of them which would surprise the heck out of me. Someone out there please tell us there are at least 2 for the front and hopefully 2 for the back!

people who only worry about cup holders should only drive a prius. Get serious, put on your big boy pants and be a true driver. :tsk:

I asked for the keys and checked it out a couple of weeks ago. Most people at Motown BMW know me- own 2 BMWs and am there all the time for car washes and occasionally service.

Nope.

Don't know who Mike W. is. Both my vehicles were special orders. Like so many here at Bimmerfest, I'm an insane enthusiast and would never buy an in stock car. PM your name and I will stop by and say hello.

I do like the SA's I've met, the parts guys and the couple of CAs I know. Guys out front always do a nice job washing the vehicles and even then coffee ladies are friendly.

Your dealership is spotless and service is always done right the first time. Never even have to wait long for just a car wash- always give the guy a couple of dollars.

Hi Bmwlvr60,

It is wonderful to see your comments about our BMW Center. Thank you.

Also, I wanted to say "Hello" after being mentioned. :) --Mike

Okay, next time I'm there I'll say hello Mike. Yes, like your dealer quite a bit.

What's the demand looking like for the i8? I recently started as Internet Sales Manager at a local BMW dealer and we currently have two in stock but the markup just sounds insane. I am probably pretty naive as I'm not much of a salesman (first sales job, degree in mechanical engineering :/)...this is my foot-in-the-door position but I wanted to reach out to the forums to get a feel for the market and thought I might get some insight here.

Any price either at or above MSRP for any car is guaranteed to make me turn around and walk out the door. Even as a joke, it's in poor form. The same goes for MF's and other rates that are significantly marked up. To a sales person, it would be like someone asking to buy the car at or below invoice (actual invoice).

I have talked to at least thirty dealerships that had i8 on their inventory and 90% of them are asking thousands over MSRP and only handful or few of them will let go at the sticker price. To satisfy your curiosity, just look at eBay listing and bidding of this car and no body is selling at the sticker price! Many listed back to eBay when bidding price did not meet their reserve price that is usually thousands higher than the MSRP. Since supply is increasing and initial curiosity and bragging rights of owning one and show off is thinning, you will see significant mark down pricing or lowering than MSRP just like normal transaction ! Just wait the year end!
