The all electric BMW i3 will go on sale in Europe in July with a starting price of roughly $53,500 USD. The range extender version with a 650cc electric generator starts around $58,000 USD. Production i3 arrive in dealership in October.

US car drivers have, what BMWNA CEO Ludwig Willisch calls "range anxiety" about electric vehicles. Despite averaging 30 miles a day US consumers don't want to be faced with the prospect of being out of juice and stuck somewhere.
The introduction of a Range Extender option for the upcoming BMW i3 aims to put some of those fears to bed and let people feel more comfortable in getting behind the wheel of a BMW powered electric vehicle.
BMW today launched the Electronaut Effect, a new digital tool that gives consumers access to key data about the range, cost savings and positive environmental impact that actual BMW ActiveE drivers are experiencing across the country.
As of this writing, the 700 ActiveE drivers have driven 6,114,069 miles and averaged 36 miles driven every day. Are you an Electronaut?
