BMW's rough year continues into the September sales month with another drop in sales from a year ago. Heading into the home stretch, it does not look promising for BMW to retain the luxury crown in the United States.
While not all terrible news, it is hard to look at the numbers and feel good about new sales recovering quickly. The bright spot in the report has to be the strong Pre-Owned market with a record of 22,809 vehicles sold in the month.

New sales of BMW vehicles in North America continued to slide in August with a 8% drop. Year to date sales are now sitting 8.3% lower than last year with 18,604 less BMW vehicles on the road.
The good news for BMW in the USA comes in the uptick of SAV sales. BMW X3 sales rose 119% while BMW X5 sales were up 47%.

Sales of BMW brand vehicles decreased 10.7 percent in February for a total of 22,498 compared to 25,201 vehicles sold in February, 2015. Year-to-date, BMW brand is down 8.2 percent from the same period last year with sales of 40,580 vehicles.
Notable vehicle sales include the BMW X1 which increased 60.2 percent, the BMW X3 which increased by 19.5 percent, and the BMW 2 Series which increased by 107.5 percent.

June 2014 was right on track for continued growth in sales for BMW in the United States with 30,201 cars sold versus 27,074 in the previous year. Tally the numbers up for the year and BMW has sold over 157,000 cars in 2014 so far - an increase of 12.1% from 2013.
Look for sales to continue to climb through the summer and into the fall as the 2015 models hit showrooms and dealers look to push out remaining 2014 inventory. Based on these results, BMW has a real shot at taking the Luxury crown in 2014.

Deliveries of BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brand vehicles increased 6.8% to total 177,741 in the last month, making it the best May ever. A new sales record was also reached in the year-to-date with a total of 826,865 vehicles delivered in the first five months of the year.
We expect to see BMW sales continue to improve through the summer as excitement over the introduction of the BMW i8, BMW M3 and BMW M4 will push more shoppers into BMW showrooms.
