    Aloha from Kauai,
I recently purchased a '97 318i. After having the head machined , the car has been running great. I took it in for my first oil change/service last week. after being quoted $130 for the work i was billed $185. I chocked this up to them needing to clear the check engine light that apparently was set on by a loose gas cap? However, within a minute of driving away frrom the shop, it was obvious that my once ice-cold AC was now blowing hot. the mechanic says it is just coincidental but i cant help but wonder? Now they are replacing the expanansion valve. the mechanic suddenly stopped work when he pulled the under the dash cover and found an electrical clip that had had wiring snipped. this clip together with a microswitch was just hangin i.e. not connected to anything. He made this out to be a big deal and that this might somehow affect his work. "this scares me, who knows what i might find under there". i just want my AC fixed.

Is it possible that the sudden breakage of my AC is completely unrelated? what should the replacement of the expansion valve cost? (i am in Hawaii Nei) can i trust a mechanic who tells me he doesn't even know "what that wiring clip is for"? any suggestions/guidance would be appreciated
