    Morning Herb, I was told that you were one of the utmost experts on the N62. As the N62 guru, can you give some advice? I have a X5 4.8i that has started to leak oil. Seems obvious, but may be just the valve cover gaskets. seeing that I have 153,000 miles on it, I would like to knock out as much preventative maintenance as possible within reason. I have posted this question to the forum but I was thinking that if I was going to do the valve cover gaskets then I should also do the time case cover gaskets as well. I think this is just an hour or two of extra work. If it is time to do valve stem seals, would you recommend I complete the timing case covers and a transfer pipe replacement or stent at the same time? Any other recommendations? Other than the oil cooler gasket, the vehicle has never had any oil barrier gaskets replaced. I appreciate any info and would send the E-beer your way. Have a good day.

    My experience with the TB rebuild sounds very similar to yours. I know you can turn a wrench and not much scares you, so the rest is just doing it for the first time. All of these sucky jobs are easy the second time and now look at you driving your 7 like you own the road again! Hahaha Very cool message at the end of a long day. Thanks for sharing! What would we do without the 'fest?

    Sorry for the delay, but I have been out of the country. The valve cover job itself, is very labor intensive. Following the instructions on TIS helps, but there is a lot of info that is left out between the lines. Having the proper torx tools, flex couplings, & impact tools helps a lot. Removing the cowl are components is the key to the job. Remove the charcoal canisters with the attached cowl coverings on both sides. Then you must remove the center section partition wall. You will probably think you don't need to remove it, but removal is a must. You will not get the valve covers off without damaging the Eccentric Shaft Sensors. At 400 a pop, you will under stand why! Replace all gaskets & o-rings, & sensor gaskets on the valve covers is a must. Expect 4 to 10 hours a side, based on your luck & skills. I have a bunch of pics, I just not had the time to do a DIY. I will be glad to help where possible, if you need some guidance.

    Hey, how's going?
    I'm about to attempt a valve cover gaskets replacement. Talked to Yorgi and he suggested writing you a PM. Could you please advice on some issues that you have encounter during this job? Do you have any pics or literature on the DIY or any advice in general? I know it's a very labor-intensive job, but is it pure mechanical, i.e.: take it apart and put it back together?
