100,000 KM Maintenance
My X5 had just reached the 100,000 KM and I want to do everything to maintain my car but I don't want to send it to the dealership so it doesn't cost me a bunch of money.
therefore I would like to know from BMW users what are the things I need to check or replace in order to keep my car running perfectly.
Also, I want to know if changing the transmission oil is suggested or not since I'm confused about it.
engine oil & filter
cabin air filter
differential + transfer case oil
power steering fluid
engine drive belts
Since I had already replaced air filters, fuel filter, just prior to the 100,000 KM mark I ended up only replacing the transmission fluid, engine oil, break pads and sensors. X5 does not have a timing belt that needs replacing, it is my understanding they use a chain that never has to be replaced.
Hope that helps.
At that mileage consider trans fluid, differential fluids (two diffs), transfer case fluid. If coolant is still factory fill, I'd replace that too. Other things at that mileage would be spark plugs (assuming you have a gas engine, not applicable on diesel), fuel filter. While it is true these engines all have a timing chain and not a timing belt, there is still the accessory belt(s?) to consider and I like to change them at this time as well. This may seem a bit extreme, but it is the old school method that has carried several of my former BMW's into the 200k miles territory so I'm a believer. Expensive if you go to the dealer, likely less so if you can find a trustworthy independent, affordable of you DIY. I would skip the dealer.
