BMW E70 X5 - DIY and How-To Thread

I figured it may help to start indexing some of the DIYs and how-to to help new member navigate the website and hopefully cut down on the repeating questions

I encourage everyone to use this thread to point out relevant DIYs and How-to which I will then collect and update the initial threads: I'm really looking for contribution from everyone to make this useful (I don't want it to be MY thread, hopefully it can become OUR). I recommend everyone to refrain commenting or starting a new DIY here: it's best to comment each DIY in it's original post or by creating a new post for a new DIY. This is just for indexing purpose.

DIY and How-To

I'm looking for a DIY on replacing the headlight washer nozzles on the E70.

anything DIY pictorials or video on changing engine oil on a X5d?

I've done it many times on my M3, just not sure if there's anything different on an X5, other than the fact the X5 doesn't have 2 drain bolts.

thanks.

Where's the oil change? I thought about doing my own sparks, but it's a V8, so I'm probably going to let my local BMW guy do that.

Google is a good friend! :)

DIY: Changing Oil & Filter in a 35d

scottysize 02-20-2015 08:12 AM

Thank you. I didn't know that 35d is the same process on my BMW. I'm guessing that is my engine number? I'm a fing nuby when it comes to BMWs.

scottysize 02-20-2015 08:35 AM

So, I think I've figured out the 35d. That's the TDI version, which I don't have. I have the 8 cylinder which I'm thinking is the N62? I'd assume the oil change on the gas is different from the diesel. Or would that be wrong too? Hey, that's why I'm here guys. Compeltely new to me.

scottysize 02-20-2015 08:40 AM

And if I'm right and I have an N62 engine, now I found the correct oil change procedure. Gracias!

Front brake pads, rotors, sensor, and reset from "AskTheCarExperts". This guy is always very detailed. I followed his videos when I did the cooling system refresh on the E46 and the level of detail was invaluable.

Headlight removal, LED retrofit, lens replacement anyone?

footballer88 11-01-2015 06:46 PM

I'm starting to get desperate here. I'm running windows 8.1 (new laptop, go figure) and the IMPA 5.0 I've installed it's working at all. Even the EDIABAS 6.47 isn't installing properly.

I'm trying to register the '07 4.8i that the DYI is set in, but it's not working:cry:.

Can anyone please redirect me on a path that can lead me to successful installation of the software? I have the OBD to USB cable and the CD with the software (E-bay/China bought). Looks good, with mainly German instructions but still nothing....

Upper radiator hose replacement?

Anyone seen instructions to replace the upper radiator hose on the 4.8 N62 motor? I can figure out how to get at and remove the hose but it seems like the BMW clamps require a special tool, can anyone verify? The new part images have the clamps on there but I have looked at then on my car and they seem crimped. Maybe just some images on how to remove the old and set the tension on the new ones?
