They will not work because they are a different diameter. The only way you could use them is if you also replaced the strut, strut mount, and lower control arm bushings to match what the '95 M3 used.

+1 to all of this. Everything fit before you took it apart, so it will go back if installed correctly. The fuel tank is not something that you want to cut corners with.
