If my experience in Sarasota is typical of Florida roads, they are in a lot better shape than the roads in Indiana and Michigan. I agree that on a smooth road, the Z4 ride is ok but it's hard to...

Interesting. My 3.0Si has the M-sport suspension and I don't think I could tolerate a long trip due to the harsh ride. Can't imagine a Miata being any worse but then, I've never driven one.

If I put a straight edge across the tire, the wheel well opening is about 1" above the tire. Mine has 55K miles on it and as far as I know (I bought it in 2015), it's never had any suspension work...

Fluid boil doesn't necessarily indicate water. Just means that it got very, very hot (446F for fresh fluid.) However, any amount of moisture will lower the boiling point so it would be a good move...

CD error

When I got my car in 2015, it played CDs, either regular or MP3. Last season, I started getting CD CHECK errors with MP3 CDs but didn't bother checking a regular CD. This year, it won't play...

There are at least 2 videos on YouTube showing a DIY recharge for the Z4. Looks pretty straightforward. Going to try it myself when it's consistently above 70. My AC quit last summer but never...

Essentially correct. You are unlikely to damage anything due to excess heat but it could cause fluid boil if the brakes overheated. Fluid boil=no brakes. Very unlikely to overheat in any type of...

Depends on annual mileage. Is it a year round car or a 6-7 month car? The first answer is a good guideline although I think you can probably go 2 years between brake fluid flushes. Mine is a...

I've thought about that and looked on Tirerack. It would be $1000+ at minimum and I'd still have the stiffer suspension. I'm in a smaller town so not a lot of Z4 owners out there looking for bigger...

My 3.0Si with M-sport suspension and 18" rubber bands has a pretty harsh ride, IMO. That's why I've been toying with the idea of a 228i or 230i as a more comfortable alternative (and the added...

The Z4 starts at $49K and I'd be shocked if you could find many under$60K. Not exactly millennial friendly pricing!

OTOH, retired old farts like me who can afford one probably don't want to shift.

We get little or no snow from April to November. I have been driving 2WD cars year around for 50+ years without a problem and since any convertible will not be driven in the winter, I don't need AWD.

Downsides to an xDrive?

I'm thinking about a 228i or 230i convertible to replace my 2006 Z4. It would be a 7-8 month car. Since I am in the upper midwest, pretty much all the 2-series are xDrive which I don't need for...

Good to know. I'm at an age where shifting is no longer exciting. I don't hate it but I think I will be just as happy with a car that is more comfortable and quieter and shifts itself. My wife...

I had the airbag sensor mat in the passenger seat replaced last May to the tune of $1400. A few months later I got a letter from BMW extending the warranty from 10 to 15 years. Got a full refund!
