Yes, get it fixed before an oil change; the shop will no doubt replace the oil, anyway, after the job is done.

This is not a trivial job on the I6, and will not be cheap. Ask your fellow BMW...

The expansion tank is just that: overfilling...

The expansion tank is just that: overfilling causes more pressure. At least one member, JimLev, keeps the tank level lower than what the float shows. I've been doing that, too.
