Old school - put a socket and breaker bar on the crank bolt and manually rotated the motor while watching the valves.
Total pain to do that, have to remove the fan.

Seems like smoother idle. My valves weren't really bad so I doubt I'll see much difference. Thing is, it's a crap shoot until you remove the intake, you don't know what's going on under there.

Only remove the connection at the electric pump. It's fused on after years of heat, but it WILL come off. You have to futz with it. Not fun but it will come off.

Never ever ever ever never ever never ever go to the dealer for non warranty work. Find a good independent BMW mechanic. Valve cover gasket is not a complex job.
