They may appear even, but it's a good chance one of them was partially collapsed when the front end was damaged. Get a good look at the frame rails that carry the bumper shocks. I'll bet one of them...

Both. It won't run on the in-tank pump by itself (low pressure)
It may run on just the external pump (high pressure for the injectors) but it's a strain on it to do so.

Test for voltage at the pump. Be aware there will be no voltage there unless the engine is spinning. Try jumpering 12v direct to the pump.
