You are probably talking about the outside temp sensor for cold air. It's a different sensor from the one for engine ambient air intake.

One thing you can do is test the solenoids. Swap inlet with outlet solenoid and see if code changes. If it does it's most likely a faulty solenoid.

Usually, you will experience rough idle if Vanos isn't working properly. Swap the connectors and see if that fixes the issue.

Are you sure you plugged in Vanos solenoid connectors properly? It is possible to cross-wire inlet and exhaust solenoids.
