Alternator went out yesterday. Luckily it was a replacement from NAPA and it has a lifetime warranty. Taking it out and putting the new one in should take about 2 hrs.

Well said. In this instance, I found the solution accidentally. Although I suspected a vacuum leak, it was not easy to find especially since I had already replaced quite a few small diameter lines...

That is good to hear. It is nice to know the TCGs can last under the right conditions. I would love to get that kind of mileage out of our 540i.

We bought our 2003 540i four years ago for $11,000....

These cars are much easier to work on than most people think. The engineering is quite thoughtful for the most part. If you have a 10mm socket, you can take apart almost half the engine...haha.
