Another way to get out of this cycle...if you have the M/S Steptronic set-up...if you push the gear selector over into the S (sport) gate...this will stop the "adaptive" funcitons of the transmission thus stopping the engine warm up cycle's programming. What's funny about that "official documentation" is that it still will shift high... I got rid of the stupid behavior by using xhp.
Also higher rpm when cold does not help a diesel warm up... More cold air means a colder burn.
