Most alternators have a split bushing inside the lower rear hole that moves inwards towards the bracket when you tighten the bolt. Sometimes they are difficult. You have to get a screwdriver or pry bar between the alternator and the bracket and pry upwards.
Thank you, I had noticed that on both a drawing and then somewhere where they talk about pushing that bushing back into the back hole of the fork (bracket) before re-installing the alternator. I was able to create a better gap using a 10 inch pry bar. A gap of 1 mm or so lets it sled out quite nicely.

Bottom line is: thank to you all, the alternator has been removed, washed and prepared for re-installation. Problem's solved!
