looking to buy....but 3rd gear synchro is out

Looking to buy a new car....was looking at 330ci convert.
I found an add for an M3....cheap. Look at it and it says this.

The biggest issue with the car is that the 3rd gear synchronizer is going out, so to get the car into 3rd gear without grinding you have to double clutch.

So I did a quick search ( I am at work) and I found a couple posts....but most have to do with the SMG. This is a manual. Also found one post on the manual....from like 2010. It said there is no rebuild kit available for these cars and I will need to source a used tranny or a new one and have it put in. Is that accurate? Is there no other fix still?

I might be better off without the m3....but don't want to pass up an opportunity if there is one to get what is otherwise a beautiful car cheap. lol

I had one of those cars. I also recall that they didn't sell parts for the transmission. E46 M3 coupes with manual transmissions are in high demand. I'd make sure what a new transmission is available and what it costs and adjust your offer accordingly.

There is no such thing as a “cheap M3.” I had the exact same issue you’re describing and had to put a used tranny in it. Now it drives fine. IIRC, the Z3 trans from the same era fits as well....bc that’s what I have.

On a related note, I’m selling my 2002 6 spd M3 if you want a softer one!
