OEM Amplifier Shorted

Having had a recent battery drain problem, I was able to chase it down to the two amplifiers in the trunk of my '01 Z3. Eliminated the amplifiers and battery drain gone. Now comes the hard part; how do I bypass the OEM amps so that I can return to having music on my aftermarket stereo? Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

Could you clarify your current setup? Multiple amps -> do you have an afermarket one and an OEM one? You say "return" to having music on your aftermarket stereo, implying you have an aftermarket stereo and must've already bypassed the OEM amp?

After market stereo installed in dash. Replaced door mid-range speakers, speakers behind the seats, and the subwoofer. OEM door tweeters left intact. Two amplifiers in the trunk. One on each side. Used after market wiring harness to connect to OEM wiring. Setup worked well for a year. Battery drain started after car left sitting for about a month. Replaced the battery. Same results. Chased battery drain to OEM amplifier. When amplifiers unplugged, battery draw was 0.5 amps.

I'd simply like to figure out how to bypass the amplifier wiring in the trunk. A plug-n-play harness would be ideal, but unlikely.

Thank you for your response.

I didn't know there are two OE amplifiers in a Z4... or is one of them aftermarket? Or one of them is not an amp? I'm not an expert btw so there could be two, but a few searches leads me to believe there's probably just one.

As I said, I'm far from an expert on this, but since no one else is answering...

Link to the aftermarket harness you used?

Also since the only issue is just a power drain, I wonder if the aftermarket harness is not wired correctly or has a minor issue. The amp is supposed to be turned "off" when the car turns off, but instead that information is not reaching the amp. The amp wiring diagram shows that there's a pin which instructs the amp to turn on and off. If you fix this issue, then problem solved!

If you really want to bypass the amp, depending on the wiring harness, you'd either have to run new wires from the stereo to the aftermarket amp, skipping the aftermarket harness, or cut the existing OEM wires near the amp and re-wire to a new amp using the pin-out diagram from the OEM amp. Either of these options seems like potentially a lot more work than fixing the battery drain itself.
