2003 bmw 530i

I just bought a 2003 bmw 530i in good condition but it has a few issues. The radio cuts in and out no matter if I'm driving or in park. It barley started today. The radio will cut out as if I pressed the volume knob, and the steering wheel will sometimes move a little up or down. It barley started today but it's annoying. Any help ?

Welcome to Bimmerfest!

I moved your question to the E39 forum (5 Series, 1997-2004) so you can get model-specific help.

1. Do an iggy switch test: When the gremlins appear, turn on the passenger visor light. If that has an effect, consider replacing the iggy switch.

2. Pull up the front passenger carpet. The power panel underneath may be corroded from water ingress.

BTW, "barley" is one of the ingredients in beer brewing.

So turn the passenger light on when that starts to happen? What am I looking for, or what should it do? And the ignition switch correct?

Yes, iggy = ignition switch.

This test, while not conclusive, should have some effect on the symptoms, and suggests a faulty switch.

BTW, tell us where you live, so it can help the diagnosis.

Yup, that's the sort of wonky behavior that points to a bad ignition switch. The extra load on the switch contact causes other circuits to do unexpected things.

It's possible to clean the contacts, but it's enough work to access that most people just replace the switch rather than risk another failure.

Do NOT use OReilly brand.
Genuine BMW ign switch is $60.
Or get a used one from jy.
Or clean the contacts yourself (info in forum).

When you get help everything is easy, it is when you do not get help it can be difficult.
Did you do the e39 ignition switch search or what? Lots of things to learn.....
