Sometimes that rattle is actually due to the door latch being worn.

I had a rattle come from what sounded like the seat belt area. After following a thread that said put electrical tape around the door latch mechanism, the rattle went away. At least in my case.

Hi Doru,
Did you fix this problem?

The reason I ask is this thread, opened today, regarding similar seat click issues:
- E39 (1997 - 2003) > Seat rattle

Looking it up, I found this in seconds in the bestlinks ... but the OP of that thread didn't:
- Seatbelts rattle fix DIY
- Seatbelt - Upper Safety Belt Mount rattle - fix

Here are graphics I found from those threads which seem to show the part that needs to be ordered:

Bluebee.
These are 2 different issues: the initial post was about a rattle of the seat belt. It is a plastic O-ring like a spacer that sometimes wears out really fast. Fixed. I noticed you posted the BMW bulletin - that was it, and although my car was built at the end of the e39 life, I had the issue.

The seat clicking is another issue. I started to experience this as well. I know what it is, but this takes some effort, which I don't have time right now. But here is one of the fixes: Open BMW tips'n tricks and scroll down to Interior - there is post #10. Enjoy.
Also, some times it could be #9 (replacing the rails).
But more often than not is #10 - some wore down bushings, and it's not that easy.

Outcome on what exactly? The seatbelt tensiner rattle was fixed years ago. The passenger seat started the clicking noise, and it sounds almost like there's a loose wire in the backrest. When it's clicking, if I hold the seat firmly, the clicking stops (while driving). I know I have to take the seat apart. This is a lengthy DIY and you can mess up stuff if don't unplug the battery first, and don't work carefully. There are plastic connectors that are brittle, you have to take out the seat, you have to check the rails, take out the seat rest which involves taking the back seat cover - again pay attention not to break that huge plastic cover -know where the latch locks are etc. The problem is there are different "clicking" issues: from the sliding rails, to the mountig jaws of the backrest to worn bushings etc. This is not a cure-all for the seat clicking sound. Every "clicking" issue of different cars might be due to different problems. It's not the same as the FSU symptom, which every e39 has. Or the failed widows regulators.
Not sure if it makes sense.
